Poured from bottle into pub glass.

A: Pours a clear burnt copper color. Voluminous cream colored head. Well carbonated with a nice layer of foam persisting the whole time and good lacing.

S: Whoa hops!! Yes, big ass piney hops. Dank and cannabinoid. Great aromatics. This screams west coast IPA.

T: Hop flavors hit immediately with a full frontal attack. The profile is big pine resin on the palate with herbal and spicy notes. Citric flavors well up from underneath on the midpalate and culminate in an orange and grapefruit juice-like aftertaste. Great bitterness all the way across the palate, lingering with a slightly astringent tingle throughout the long finish. Good malt backbone on this one, with a nice underlying sweetness buried under big ass hops.

M: Nice medium-bodied brew with good carbonation. Decent slickness.

D: Very good. This is a great IPA and easy to drink more than one.

Overall, a superb effort by Green Flash. Quintessential west coast IPA - very appropriately named. Everything clicks with this brew. Very impressed.

Appearance – This poured a big and thick orange in color with a beautiful orangish-white head that came up just right, showed great retention, and left some awesome lacing on the inside of my pint glass. This was the kind of beer that makes you want to fetch your camera.

Smell – The West Coast hops and sweetish malts are balanced just right at the nose. The sharp tangerine rind smell and the lightly-toasted malts work well together. You can just tell that this is going to taste great.

Taste – The flavors work together just as well as the smells did. There's a big rush of pine that I failed to pick up at the nose. The malts have a lot of caramel sweetness to them. This is a sharp, powerful ale.

Mouthfeel – This is a big big IPA. It's shy of full-bodied but bigger than medium. It's not overly dry but has enough dryness to shock the average drinker.

Drinkability – I wasn't expecting this from a sub-$2 beer but this heavy hitter is incredibly well done.

Poured a thick amber gold. Head was two fingers off white. The nose is a peppery lemon grapefruit. Definitely a lot of citrus notes. You can smell the sweetness of the malt, but the alcohol remains hidden to the nose. The taste is aggressively bitter. There's a hint of caramel, but that is quickly masked by the tidewater of hops. They coat the tongue. The bitterness stayed for seven counts after swollowing. Pretty intense. Good if you love bitterness.

On tap, poured into a 22 ounce Weizen glass.

Appearance - Carmel colored (a bit dark for an IPA). Thick, lumpy, off-white head. Very good stickage.

Smell - The crisp, spicy hop smell is front and center but there is a faint carmel aroma present, too.

Taste - Like the nose, the bold hop flavor is prominent. After the initial hop hit, however, a mildly sweet carmel flavor shows up. The finish is on the dry side. Very nice.

Mouth - Bright. Great carbonation.

Overall - The color was a tip-off. Yes, this a California hop bomb but there is just enough toasted malt flavor to keep things interesting. I wouldn't call the beer "balanced" but I would call it tasty. Yet another brewery to put on my "must visit" list (I live just 80 miles north of downtown San Diego).

Great beer, lots of hops lots of flavor. By far the best beer made by Green Flash.

A - Pours a golden amber color with medium murkiness/clarity and very bubbly. 1 inch white head that retains well, with lots of lacing.

S - A fantastic mixture of hops and sweet citrus fruits (orange and lemon peel, passion fruit, and grapefruit).

T - A sweet front is quickly followed by a fruitiness that ends with a very strong bitter aftertaste.

M - A medium body that does not create a strong burn from either carbonation or alcohol.

O - The smell is great, and the taste is sweet at first but the bitter aftertaste is very powerful, maybe a bit overpowering.
