In Captain Lawrence tulip.

Pours a clear deep orange with a slight reddish tinge. Big 3 finger head receds to 1 finger with great lacing. Big bubbles float on a puffy off white head.

Smells of strong hops, tropical fruits, mango, and grapefruit. Smells awesome! A touch of sticky malt and bread like background with pine esters

Tastes of wonderful tropical fruit, with juicy mango off set by well balanced hops bitter and sticky pine with grapefruit juice. BITTER finish. Malts carry flavors accross the palate and intigrate flavors but not domenant. Very slight alcohol preseant when warmed up.

12oz bottle poured into an oversized snifter. Bottled on 6/26/12. I know this because it’s finally got a date on it! Thanks Green Flash!

A: Two-finger off-white head sits atop a gorgeous hazy deep copper body. Pretty much my ideal picture of an IPA.

S: Pretty amazing. Sweet (almost candy-like) grapefruit and lemon. Some floral qualities.

T: Tastes great. The flavor is pretty severely unbalanced towards the hops and I don’t mind a single bit because I love all the hops they used for this beer. The malt makes a brief appearance mid-palate but then gets the hook from an almost perfect amount of bitterness in the finish.

M: Pretty dry for an IPA. Not as oily as some others. Medium body and lively carbonation. Drinkability is above average for such a full flavored IPA.

O: I always knew this was a good beer, but suffered through several old bottles due to a lack of bottle dating. When I slowed down for this review to really appreciated it, I realized how tremendous it really is when reasonably fresh.

Bottled 07/09/12

A - Two plus fingers worth of airy fluffy pillow-like slightly off-white colored head that is comprised of loads of big chunky bubbles... Excellent retention ultimately leaves a splotch froth... The color is an intriguing deep bronze color... A limited bit of uber sluggish carbonation rises throughout... A good bit of sticky lacing clings to the glass...

S - Grape fruit... Sweet tangerine... Orange zest... The pleasant citrusy hops are at the forefront, but not too potent... They sit atop a rich malt base comprised of biscuit and rich caramel... Very pleasant and spot on the for the style...

T - The hops take a 180-degree turn on the palette... Instead of the expected citrus, the hops take on a much more piney, earthy, noble character... There are no hints of citrus... Some graham crackers and bread crust... Some light floral notes...

M - Ultra dry from the get go... A slight bite throughout... Starts harsh before turning more gentle throughout... Medium bodied... Limited carbonation...

D - Excellent appearance and aroma... The taste and mouthfeel weren't quite what I was hoping for... The overall result is a slightly interesting American IPA... This is not something that I would drink with regularity...

A - Dark orange and very murky. Can't see through this beer, but no visible sediment floating around. Poured very little white head that quickly disappeared. Better head retention would have scored this perfect for me.

S - Hops, hops, and more hops!

T - Funny this used to be one of my favorite IPA's. Now all I'm really getting out of it is overly bitter hop bite that really sticks to the tongue. Not a lot of citrus or pine. Hops really stick to the tongue and leave a bitter aftertaste.

M - Pretty normal for an IPA with nice carbonation.

OP - Very drinkable IPA but very bitter. Almost drinks like an Imperial. I will definitely be drinking this beer again, although it may not be my first choice.

Pours dark orange with a 3 finger off white head with good retention, and very nice lacing. As soon as I opened the bottle, I could smell grapefruit, pineapple, and pine. I could still smell it easily after I poured it into the glass, and the glass was not even that close to me. Very impressive.

When I tasted the beer, I could taste the grapefruit, pine, and to a smaller extent the pineapple, but also tasted a good deal of caramel malt. Very nice, but a bit more malt forward than I would have guessed. There is a good deal of sweetness, and hop bitterness, to make this a nicely balanced IPA.

Medium bodied with modest carbonation. Very smooth and easy to drink. Is somewhat sticky sweet, with a bit of bitterness at the end. Nicely balanced. This is a very nice beer, which I look forward to having again.
