Simply one of the best American I.P.A.s.
Beautiful amber-golden appearance.
Rich, fruity, hoppy smell. Strong honey and floral characteristics.
Amazing melon and orange flavors up front tapering off into perfect hoppy bitterness.
A delicious and satisfying brew.

I used to drink this all of the time when I lived in San Diego. Green Flash is one of the greats from San Diego that have been their a long time. When I saw this IPA at the store, I was really excited to pick up a six pack.

I got a ton of foam right off of a pretty conservative pour. This foam held on for quite awhile, and the result of this head was some very good lacing. I like looking at the stratifications on the glass.

The flavor and smell compliment each other very well. I like the pulpy grapefruit presence. The flavor is very up front, but it is not overwhelming. I like the balance in this IPA. There isn't even a bitter impact on this beer. Even as it warmed, the West Coast IPA is still very drinkable.

I really like this beer. It falls in my top 5 (and I lean toward this style). I recommend this beer highly.

20oz. glass On-tap at Parish Cafe & Bar in Boston

A- Brownish golden, average carbonation, about a finger and half of white froathy head. Decent lacing.

S- A little bit hoppier then your average IPA. Not too sweet, but definitely a distinctive pine smell.

T- Definitely hoppy, slightly sweet piney taste, a little bit bitter.

M- Medium boddied, easily drinkable especially at 7.3%, nice froathy head gives a nice mouthfeel at beginning of beer. About average carbonation.

O- This beer was definitely good for an IPA. It definitely had a generous amount of hops and had a nice piney taste. The alcohol was definitely well hidden and the beer was easily drinkable. It definitely had a distinctive west coast piney taste. The only thing I didn't like about this beer was that it wasn't sweet enough. I usually like a sweet grapefruit citrus taste with my IPAs to go along with the piney taste however I know this probably wasn't intended in this style of beer.

12oz from Porters Northwood, poured into a Lost Abbey tulip.

Deep orange colour, nice glow when held up to the light. Large head of off-white, creamy foam that laces well and recedes slowly.

Smells of fresh grapefruit and grapefruit skin and resin. Lots of grapefruit oriented citrus that is consistent and fresh. Long lasting smell which is always good.

Tastes big, plenty of grapefruit coming through, a little bit of pine resin plays a bit part and evens it out a touch. Consistent, flavoursome and good, everything you expect in a hop-bomb west coast ipa.

Consistent extreme bitterness throughout, good body still there, despite the big hop presence. The big hop presence doesn't turn you off either, keen to go back for more of a hit.

Benchmark IPA from the west coast when it comes to bitterness, tonnes of it. Flavoursome, intense and does what it says. Plenty of fun if you are keen on a super-hopped IPA.

The beer pours a rich amber with no head. Modest hop aroma with sweet malt and almost no alcohol. The taste is booming hops with a little sweetness from the malt to follow. Relatively smooth and balanced towards the end, quite enjoyable. This is really an IPA you can drink 20oz of, I would recommend it to west coast IPA lovers.

Tasting sample pours a bright golden-orange with a big, fluffy white head. Retention and lace are superb.

The nose is pretty classic 'west coast'- big ruby red grapefruit and pine aromas with some lightly toasted bread and florally, Muscat-like tones of ripe mango, peach and citrus blossoms. A very vague touch of that hoppy cheese sits almost hidden in the background too.

Palate is medium bodied with a little more malty toast than I expected, with some unripe tropical fruit tones and a vague hop slickness that serves more to gently smooth out the mouthfeel. The bitterness hits right off the bat, but then pauses before swelling to massive proportions on the finish, picking up a bit of breadiness and pineyness before leaving some lingering grapefruit pith- dry and juicy- with an everlasting bitterness.

Carries the 'west coast' label for a reason. A very solid IPA. Personally, I prefer a little more tropical fruit in my IPA, but I can't knock this for any reason.

Pours a red-gold colour. Good head and lacing. Lots of floaties, which isn't ideal.

Strong hop aroma here. Smells like straight hop flowers with only the thinnest of malt backing. The hop aromas are floral and basically just smell like pungent fresh hops rather than any alternative flavour. Reminds me of Hopsickle.

In the mouth there is a little malt sweetness but overall the residual sugar is quite tame, far less present than in Hopsickle.

Mouthfeel is medium with highish carb.

Overall this is a quintessential West Coast IPA as one would hope. Think I prefer Hopsickle though, more integration and I prefer its slightly higher malt sweetness.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a clear consistency. There was a big, foamy, long-lasting head. Average lacing.

S: A super hoppy aroma, with some malt and citrus as well.

T: Tasted of heavy hops, malt, citrus (grapefruit, lemon), pine, resin, and maybe a little caramel thrown in. Complex, powerful, focused and tasty. Basically what an IPA from California should taste like.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a somewhat slick finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Sometimes beers don't live up to their hypes, but this one actually manages to meet and exceed expectations.

Beer pours a nice amber color with about a fingers worth of white foamy head.

Beer smells very strongly of citrus and floral hops.

Taste follows the nose. Very sweet on the initial sip, followed by a great bitter finish. Strongly of pine at the end.

Mouthfeel is a tad on the thick side, but not too bad.
