Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: This is one beautiful beer. I don't usually like giving out five's, since that implies that there is no room for improvement, but I can't imagine a better looking IPA. It pours a hazy, dark golden sunburst color with hints of deep orange and reddish hues. Its frothy, one finger, white head has great retention and fades to a foamy film and ring. The lacing is perfection, you can almost see the steps of each drink.

S: Up front, there is a nice hop profile, which gives way to very citrus fruity aromas , including grapefruit and oranges. Big herbal aromas complement the citrus, giving it hints of a subtle earthy aroma.

T: There is a similar hop profile, but instead of the strong citrus fruits, piney and grassy tastes dominate. A touch more malt is noticeable in the taste that wasn't as apparent in the aroma. The hops provide the bitter finish that is characteristic from an American IPA.

M: The mouthfeel is what you'd expect from a good IPA. It is medium bodied. A moderate amount of carbonation moves the flavors around. The crisp and slightly bitter finish refreshes the palate, preparing you to enjoy some more.

O: This is a very good American IPA. I can't believe it took me this long to try this, but I'm glad I did now. This has quickly become one of my favorite IPA's.

Straight pour from UNDATED 12oz pry-off bottle to Luettich balloon-style glass (Bruery Tulip); bottle is undated by the store owner said this batch came in just last week so I figure it’s as fresh as I’m going to get it without going to San Diego.

Appearance (4.5): I think it’s actually almost perfect (for the style). Three fat fingers of buttermilk-colored head, a mix of fine and coarse bubbles, slowly devolving into a cratery mass leaving round, spotty lace all over the sides of the glass. The body is a clear, deep orange. I prefer unfiltered beers, but this looks amazing.

Smell (4.5): Bright tangerine and fresh pineapple, with a very understated piney-to-grassy support underneath it. Hops all the way, no question there.

Taste (4.5): Bracing bitterness following a line from grapefruit to pine, with a bitter grassy finish. Holy crap this hop profile is awesome. Malt base is mildly sweet, moderately toasty, and just thick enough to keep these hops in the air. I prefer a little more caramel and biscuit, but this is, again, approaching perfect for the style. Yeast is, I think, not quite the neutral American ale character you’d expect but moving just a bit English. Either way, it’s an afterthought in relation to these hops. Alcohol is also an afterthought, but it’s there. Finish is medium-length and somewhere between toasty and grassy. Very, very nice.

Mouthfeel (4.5): Medium body, dry finish, moderately oily in between—great, once again. Personal preference is for super-oily and a bit heavier, but this is great and quaffable to no end.

Overall (4.5): Truly outstanding IPA. West Coast to a “t,” and we’re all better for it. I don’t believe in West Coast supremacy, but this kind of beer makes a strong case. Green Flash, date your bottles and I’d buy you every week if I could.

Bottle poured into Stone IPA glass.
Pours a hazy dark copper, much darker then I have become used to in a IPA, has a nice off white sticky head that hangs around. The nose is citrus, pine and grass with a nice malty background. The taste follows suite to the nose with the citrus and pine as well as the balanced maltiness and a bit of spiciness. Medium bodied with a good cling in the mouth, well carbed. It's a good IPA and definitly fits the West Coast description.

A-Pours hazy orange amber. off white creamy, frothy head is about ¾ of an inch high and retains excellently. Leaves tons of lacing.

S-Smells eccentrically hopped. Ripe and juicy fruity citrus and pine. Great nose. Love how intense the hops are. The malt tries to balance, but it is overwhelmed by the plethora of hoppiness.

T-The cask's temprature and the smooth feel really let all the hop flavors envelope the palate. Pine and citrus and other ripe tropical fruits. Maltiness does lend some balance. Great taste.

M-The cask makes the feel smooth and perfect. Barely any carbonation. So smooth and creamy.

O/D-Love it on-tap or in a bottle. But via cask this beer is truly awesome. Great beer especially casked.

Bought at Berkeley Bowl west, no exp.

A: Foggy sun tea orange with slow uniform rising carbonation. 1.5 finger head. cloudy floating sediment like a pond
S: Relatively weak but nice IPA smell, hoppy with a pine sweetness.
T: Bitterness turns into sourness, bitterness is pretty strong, but alcohols is well masked. almost bananay yeast. citrusy background.
M: Tad astringent, light to moderate micro carbonation.
O: good but I don't see why people think it's SO great.

The beer is an amber and cloudy. The head on the beer is amazing. Fluffy clouds float on top and cling to the edge nice.

The nose is punget citrus, slight pine and plent of hoppyness not really any malt

The taste reminds me of furious but bitter. Full of hops citrus floral flavors but the taste dramatically turns to a full on bitter. Hrm. This beer is confusing the flavors don't mix well each ok on their own but fruity hops the earth bitterness don't meld for me not to say its bad just not for me

Bottle courtesy of JoeyBeerBelly. Thanks Joe!

It pours a hazy peach colour with a good 2 finger head of foam and some nice lacing. Also, some sediment.

The hops spring to my nose immediately. Lots of citrus and tropical fruity goodness with a backbone of bready malt.

The taste doesn't quite live up to the smell. It is sincerely bitter with citrus, less of the tropical fruit, and an aspirin kind of bitterness. It's good and all but I find that it is overly bitter.

Good smooth mouthfeel, I have to say, 1 bottle is enough for me.

This is a nice representation of an American IPA. Everything that you would expect from the style.

Pours a deep gold with nice white head.

Smell is of aggressive hops. Citrus is the dominant aroma. Hops, hops and more hops.

Taste is exactly what you would think you would get from the nose. Very aggressive citrus. Bitterness is immediate. Lots of citrus with subtle pine. Nice IPA. Hoppiness lingers.

enjoyed in a pint glass

A: Pours a nice light amber color that is crystal clear, small amount of carbonation bubbles, pours with a full finger of fluffy gently off white head that lingers nicely, leaves a solid amount of lacing on the glass
S: typical ipa scent with nice citrus notes, nothing that stands out but still nice
T: Nice taste, nice grapefruit notes initially then moves into a bit of depth with some funk to it and leaves a bit of dryness and leaves an aftertaste of funk which is nice
M: medium carbonation tingle in the beginning then moves into a great sweetness, nice
O: a nice brew pretty much what i expect and what i like from ipas, not the best but its still a solid brew

A. Hazy, but vibrant glowing copper yellow with foamy head.

S. Grassy hops, citrus, pine and lemon.

T. Fresh hops take center stage in this brew, very floral, but bitter and not sweet. piney and hoppy resin flavor with grassy, but clean finish.

M. Munchy but clean and crisp, each sip has you reaching for more and more.

O. Solid stand by IPA of mine for the last 10 years. It is sad to see the price keeps climbing on this brew. Also the bottles, although nice, seem a bit excessive. An empty bottle weighs 4x more then an average empty bottle, which to me seems like a waste of natural resources and an unnecessary expense being passed on to the consumer in the end.

A - a large cream-colored head with large bubbles, not creamy-looking, but read on...

S - malty but just a hint of sweet and spicey

T - malt balanced with bitterness and citrus

M - mouthfeel is truly excellent and very creamy; not sure I've had many like this one.

Overall, ranks way up there with some of the small batch stuff.
Nothing unusual but maybe near the top of west coast IPAs?

Amber orange color, with a lot of floating corpuscles.
Egg shell colored foam, creamy, right.
Piney, resiny at the smell, with citrus fruit notes.
In the taste again piney and resiny, even more intense. Malt and caramel support all.
A good long bitterness in the aftertaste, with sharp grassynotes, root, rhubarb.
Maybe in the long run it will be a bit boring, but it is clean and balanced.

I was in LA at this Brazilian bistro last weekend, the waiter was really friendly and funny. They had a dish that was called "chicken on fire" i asked him if that meant that it was spicy or just really well cooked. After he explained that it was spicy he made me a recommendation for a dish that was awesome. I also ordered a beer, the green Flash west coast IPA. The waiter said, "I do not recommend that beer, it is fucking terrible." He continued on to tell me that I could return it if I didn't like it. After about ten minutes I ordered a second.

This beer had a nice yellow pilsner color with a descent size head. Good filtration. This beer has a really strong inviting aroma for the hop loving beer drinkers. A citrus smell probably from simcoe or citra hops, definitely some dry hoping going on. The beer however is not well balanced in the taste department. There is no trace or warmth from the alcohol and there is little sign of malt when you compare the punch from the hop character. This also plays a roll in the way the beer felt going down.

Overall this is a great beer if IPA is your thing. For the sake of variety I would Drink this beer again, that is if simcoe is still affordable enough over the next few years.

Having already had this on tap a few times (and having reviewed the tap version review - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2743/22505/?ba=CaptDavyJones), I finally got my hands on a bottle.
Surprisingly, the beer was not much different from the tap. The only place where the bottled version of this beer was better than the tap, was in the aroma. Fresher, tempting floral hop goodness.
This IPA is just a sheer delight, and like I said in the tap review, one of the best IPA's around.
Highly recommended for all hop-heads; a must-try.

Currently IPAs are my general favourite style of beer, so I made sure to check this out at a local taphouse in Richmond, BC.

With 95 IBUs, this beer really blew me away. I have had it once before, but I forgot how potent it was; that said, I enjoy a solid but slow-drinking beer, and this fit the bill nicely for me. The initial punch it packs, as I said, is quite strong - stronger than most IPAs I have - but I still really enjoyed it, all the subtle flavours. I would definitely have it again. Gotta love all the hoppy things that come from the West Coast; it's a good thing I'm such an IPA fan.
