Poured into a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

A- Pours a very nice copper color with a little funk in it. Have only seen a few IPAs with this much floating around in it... Has a two finger fluffy white head that is extremely sticky. Very nice retention.

S- A whole lot of pine here, a lot of citrus, and some slight floral notes. This is what a hoppy beer should smell like. The piney and citrusy smell of the West coast, and the floral aroma of the East coast. Best aroma of an IPA that I've ever had the pleasure to smell.

T- Just like the smell. It's hard to pick out what comes in what order, but it's definatly a West coast style IPA in the taste. Almost all pine and citrus flavors here.

MF/D- Medium to full bodied IPA. The flavors bounce around on your toungue and linger for quite a while. A very tasty and drinkable IPA. I could easily have another. Too bad we don't get it in CT.

poured a rich copper color to a dogfish head signature glass - full finger off white head lasting a couple minutes or so leaving nice lacing on the glass.

hops are in your face, smelling of citrus with a strong pine following up. fairly strong hoppy bite upon the first sip, and this remained throughout - however, the malt was more evident after about 10 minutes or so.

i'm not a big fan of IPA and strong hops beers, but this one, i'd drink again.

thumbs up

Poured into Stone IPA glass great one for ipas

A: copper color bright white head that left fairly quick or else it would be 4.5 on appearance

S: smell is bonkers nearly a 5.0 tropical fruits and citrus and the malts blend right into the smell its so good.

T: Grapefruit Tropical fruit bit of pine bit of malt with more citrus like orange and pineapple not very much malt backing up the hops its hops and hops tad bit of malt but slight.

M: medium light mouthfeel with good carbonation here for the style spot on

D: drinking 2 is easy maybe 3 but its pushing it cuz its so damn hoppy 95 ibu and you can taste it

overall: a ballsy hopped up brew that could be from stone it takes no prisoners and makes no apologizes.

A- Light brown/amber color with a two-finger head that has insane staying power. Big-time, sticky lacing.

S- Citrus, pine, and floral hops. Hints of tropical fruit and just a hint of malt and alcohol.

T- Same as the aroma. Bitter from start to finish.

M- Thin to medium feel with mid-level carbonation.

D/O- A tasty little hop forward beer from Green Flash. Even though this is a good beer, I really don't see myself reaching for this beer again anytime soon. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it just isn't my cup of tea. Cheers.

A fresh growler poured into a pint glass

An aggressive pour delivers two fingers of white fluffy head resting proudly atop an amber colored ale. Lacing galore as the head falls to a thin cap that maintains for the remainder. A tint of gold is revealed when held to the light. Truly a beauty of an IPA and strangely dark for an ale boasting West Coast in the name. Sweet candy hops come through in the nose highlighted with light floral aromas. The hops become stronger as the ale draws closer to room temperature. Orange and grapefruit become more and more prevalent. The tip of the tongue gets a nice treat of sweet grain and hop resins. The pallet becomes coated boldly with hop oils of bitterness. Sticky hops lasting in the after taste proving worthy of the west coast name. The very slight evidence of caramel remain dry but pay homage to the style. West Coast IPA is quite a quaffer, but heed the 7% ABV dong your best not to kill the entire growler to you can still respect beer. Tonight is a week night and I shared this one with a very grateful fellow BA brother.

Pours a sort of hazy copper with a thick frothy head, really nice retention and some lacing.
Smell is all hops, super citrusy and piney. A lot of different hop aromas going on at once. Not too powerful, but really delicious smelling.
Taste is very bitter with a malt base. Grapefruit is most noticeable to me, but there are plenty of piney and floral hops to be found as well. Drying on the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium body with medium carbonation. This is well balanced, but very hoppy and bitter, so don't expect to be able to put more than a couple away unless you're a hophead.
Great beer! Really loved this one.

Poured from bottle into pub glass.

A: Pours a clear burnt copper color. Voluminous cream colored head. Well carbonated with a nice layer of foam persisting the whole time and good lacing.

S: Whoa hops!! Yes, big ass piney hops. Dank and cannabinoid. Great aromatics. This screams west coast IPA.

T: Hop flavors hit immediately with a full frontal attack. The profile is big pine resin on the palate with herbal and spicy notes. Citric flavors well up from underneath on the midpalate and culminate in an orange and grapefruit juice-like aftertaste. Great bitterness all the way across the palate, lingering with a slightly astringent tingle throughout the long finish. Good malt backbone on this one, with a nice underlying sweetness buried under big ass hops.

M: Nice medium-bodied brew with good carbonation. Decent slickness.

D: Very good. This is a great IPA and easy to drink more than one.

Overall, a superb effort by Green Flash. Quintessential west coast IPA - very appropriately named. Everything clicks with this brew. Very impressed.

Poured in to a Duvel tulip.

A - A nice medium coloured amber with a bit of cloudiness. Half a finger of white bubbly head from the pour quickly disappeared.

S - The nose is citrus and piney hops.

T - The taste is a bitter hops. Citrus (orange peel and some grapefruit) up front with some pine in the aftertaste. A very slight caramel malt palate in the background.

M - Light to medium body with a little chew. Good amount of carbonation. Smooth.

D - As I continued to drink this beer the pine became more prevalent than the citrus and the malt backbone also became more predominant. A good balanced IPA but not exactly what I expected from a "west coast" IPA.

Enjoyed on tap at Kaya in Pittsburgh

Pours clear deep gold with a small head that dissipates quickly into a fine ring. Small amount of lacing.

Strong aromas of piney hops and citrus peel.

Flavors of malt followed by deep bitter hops and grapefruit. Tongue numbing hop level.

Body is light and carbonation is crisp.

This is very drinkable and tasting fresh on draft.

pours orangey-apricot bright and semi-opaque. already looks good with its pancake batter head and alien lacing...i can see future glyphs that represent the past...

nose:pure unadulterated grapefruit floral smackdown. what you want and expect. maybe a bit beyond. oh and grass.

taste is bitter, lemony, there's some sort of dimensional echo/warp...too much info...ok, hop-heaven, but for all it's weight, this is in zero-gravity, so there's a top-heavy bliss going on. all the malts drowned, but their souls remain, genuflecting the power of hops...if anything, SN Torpedo is more 'balanced'...but this is for the freaks. love it.

the mouthfeel is actually light, crisp, rich. i think it is an inadvertent part of the mix...but dangerously drinkable...too much so

up there with smuttynose and nugget nectar. no so much a question of style, but of pure hopheadiness!

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle on 4/19/10.

A - Pours a deep rusty brown with a 1/2 inch of foam that slowly disappeared. Some lacing was left on the glass

S - lots and lots of citrusy hop goodness with a nice malt backbone

T - Moderate amount of malt with big citrus hops ending with a big bitter bite

M - medium bodied, nicely carbonated, smooth mouthfeel with the sharp bitterness

D - very nice tasting IPA, could have alot of these, maybe not the best choice for someone new to a hoppier ipa, but I am very happy with this one.

Had on tap at a local bar, had to grab a bottle for a proper review:

Look - Light amber, big frothy white head, mild retention

Smell - Heav-hitting hoppy citrus, grapefruit

Taste - Sweet on the tongue, clean malty caramel flavor on the palate, and a rush of citrus hops going down. Aftertaste is strong bitter hops.

Feel - medium body, a little chewy, crisp at colder temperatures

Drink - Say what you will about the bitterness, it's a rather tasty drink. Those who fear hops should stay away, but anyone who appreciates the style will enjoy it. I found the alcohol to be a bit strong though, so it's definitely not a session beer for me.

I had this on tap at Toronado on Haight St.
It poured out a nice gold with a decent head. The smell was thick and balanced, nice citrus hops. The taste was as balanced as the smell, nice and hoppy with a slight, sweet background. A little heavy for an IPA with only 7%ABV. I could have had another but there was a Saison I hadn't had on tap so...

Got my growler filled downtown at The Finger Lakes Beverage Center, where I was looking to try the Horseheads IPA but they'd just emptied that yesterday. FLBC also had a Southern Tier IPA, so I had a hard choice which to bring home. Taste test out of nasty little paper cups gave the Green Flash a clear win, though, for its aroma, taste, mouthfeel and aftertaste all good even out of paper. Aftertaste of the two IPAs lingered half-way up East Hill bike-ride: a perfect varnish of happy hopping, not the cottonmouth hop haters complain about but rather an Egyptian mummification of well-preserved mouth feelings. Maybe I'd been swishing them all around my tongue too much, but such taste makes me want to have my ale and drink it too.

Back home out of the growler (after lunch and a nap and a few hours chores as growler chilled in fridge), this poured a rather anemic, quickly dwindling head that left very little lace. Amber a 13 on my SRM color chart is cloudy, so at least I like the turbidity if not the head. Excellent carbonation keeps a few teensy foam rafts floating.

Smells all of hops, and lots of different floral citrus pine and turpentine goodness.

Taste whacks palate from all sides with delish crisp hop bitters and blossoms. Reminds me of picking our own hops vine last summer as fresh bud beauty hits my IPA nerves. This is the well-tuned chord of various hop varieties harmonizing cosmically, maybe there's a bit of malt in mouth someplace, but who cares. Aftertaste continues in the rich vein of hops happening and not going away.

If I lived on west coast, this would be drinkable. Even given the horrible dose of diesel it takes to ship Green Flash all the way out here, I couldn't help preferring this to some way more nearby neighborhood IPAs.

Ordered a Lagunitas WTF but they told me the keg tapped so I order a Southern Tier IPA and was given this first along with the Southern Tier for free so I thought I would review it.

A - Looks like a nice IPA. Hazy amber in color with laces of frothy white foam.

S - Smells mostly of hops and malts. Slight grapefruit and citrus burred under their somewhere

T - Oh god no! It tastes as bad as I remember! The true abomination of citrus pine sol, soapy flavor and all, hit the tongue but with a mild malty background that reminds you that it's a beer. I normally don't do this but I gagged drinking it.

M - Leaves the palate clear. I am not a swearing man but I swear I just washed my mouth out with soap.

D - If this is your first, heck 10th IPA please avoid! Needless to say the southern tier and stone IPA's I had that night were crisp delicious in hops flavor compared to this liquid soap.

Stay away if you can! Their are plenty of other IPA's to try!

on tap at the grumpy bulldog. served in a pint glass for 6$.

A- a golden colored body with a hint of amber under a fluffy bright white head. the head lasts for a little while and leaves behind solid rings of lacing.

S- hops hops hops. lots of grapefruit and pine. the malt is nowhere to be found.

T- the taste is just as unbalanced as the smell, but the malts do make and appearance. a little bit of caramel and biscuit followed by a blast of bitter pine and grapefruit.

M- medium bodied and well carbonated. leaves the mouth nice and dry. bitter aftertaste.

D- a decent price for what you get. if you want hop taste and cottonmouth, this is the beer for you.

Pours a nice amber color with a big fluffy white head and moderate lacing. Aroma is loaded with citrus and hops - smells fantastic. The taste is a bit of a step down though, in my opinion. The hop bitterness is extremely intense, and a bit too rough around the edges. Citrus is there with a moderate malty sweetness. In the end, though, the overload of bitterness just seems a bit unrefined to me - not enough balance. Load it with hops, sure, but give me something there with it to complement it. As it is, it just seems a bit one-dimensional. Mouthfeel is very good - creamy, good carbonation. Fairly drinkable.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a SA perfect pint:

Appearance: Pours a hazy orange, light brown color with a nice honey comb like head with tremendous lacing and retention.

Smell: Smells very creamy, almost like a creamsical. Very nice citrus, orange, grapefruit and a nice does of pinecone on the nose. Nice pineapple like citrus comming through and a good solid malty backbone. The malt is almost like a cinnabon with its sweetness.

Taste: Initially the beer starts off very full bodied and attacks the palate with intense grapefruit and pinecone flavors. Then it begins to balance out with a bit of honeycomb, pineapple and a slight vanilla wafer like sweetness. Finishes very bitter and hoppy, yet balanced. Very fruity and medium dry on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Nice carbonation, and a nice soapy sweet mouthfeel. Medium dry finish and good mouthfeel.

Drinkability: The abv is above my normal session IPA but its very drinkable. I wouldnt necessarily need food with this, but a nice sharp cheddar or gouda would do wonders for this beer.

Pours amber, thick white foam. Retention is excellent, with lacing throughout.

Aroma is extremely hoppy.

Taste is big on the hops with a malt backing that balances it out rather well. Hops level on this one..superb.

Mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied.

Drinkability? Hops could get a bit harsh on you, but I could have another one...but it isn't really made to be a drinkable bear. Its made to rip your face off.

Bottle at the Beachland Ballroom. 12oz poured into the only cup I could find - a clear plastic 14oz cup.

Appearance is nice- light orangish copper colored beer with a great head. There was even a bit of lace on the cup!!

Smell is hops, lots of hops, and some good mix. Dank herb, pine, citrus - this smells like a Phish show without the patchouli.

Taste is nice. There's a good balance between the sweet malt and the pungent hops. Pine and oranges, some pineapple, and a decent rush of bitterness. A bit too sticky though, could use a touch less of the lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel was good with a medium body. I like a bit more crispness in my IPA's and this was a touch too creamy.

Drinkability was good but the score took a hit due to the lingering bitterness. I like this beer but there are much better IPA's out there to enjoy. But at least it delivers the hops!

Green Flash IPA pours a rich, light copper hue with a nice and dense pillowy head. Retention and lacing are both excellent. Truly a beautiful beer.

Huge hop aroma on this bad boy, with a big citrus pop backed by some backwoods leafiness.

Flavor is big time bitter. This might be one of the most bitter beers I've tasted. It's something like 90 IBUs with a standard IPA abv of 7 percent and normal malt profile, so there's not much there to counter the bitterness. This is, however, somewhat of a weakness as it overpowers the real hop flavor, which has hints of pine and grapefruit, mainly. Mouthfeel is nice, with ample carbonation that provides body and creaminess, plus some oily hop resins.

Drinkability, for me at least, is not fantastic, as this beer packs a serious bitter punch. Nevertheless, a great example of the style. One of the most "west-coast" brews I've ever had.

Served into a tulip glass.

This West Coast IPA,should be the standard that IPA's should be brewed to. Cough.. (ranger)

A= Looks good, nice cloudiness, and a nice burnt orange hue. Short head retention, with bubbly lacing.

S= HOPS, citrus, grapefruit a product of the Simcoe hops, not grassy.

T= Blast of flavor, a nice layering of hops coming out from the taste. The Columbus hops show true with this pungent taste.

M= Stays on the tongue for a long time, taste come through a minute of two after sipping. Creates a nice way to taste the beer more slowly.

D= The drinkablity is good. Not a fast drinker, due to the nice mouthfeel, you want to wait for the post-taste, from the Cascade hops, leaving a nice flower taste. But a great beer that will have your senses coming back for more.

Overall= wow, this is up there with the best of the IPA's, next to stone Ruination, Lagunitas Maximus and DFH 90 minute. Great beer, love the flavors, resin from the hops and all around drinkablity.

New Beer Friday!

Appearance - Pours into my SA Perfect Pint with a tawny/amber color, achieving about two fingers of tan fluffy head that is dissipating relatively fast but leaving decent lacing.

Smell - Immediately there are juicy hops, piney resin, and citrus. Unripe grapefruit and orange peel come to mind.

Taste - Very bitter up front - followed by pine and bitter citrus flavors. When I said it smells of unripe grapefruit and orange peel, it tastes twice as bitter as it smelled. A slight maltyness comes through at the end but overall I am mainly getting bitter hops/citrus. Not crazy balanced but not too bitter. [edit] Damn, this is too bitter. I'm halfway done with it now and have let it warm up for about 20 minutes and it is taking its toll.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, good carbonation, slightly creamy, relatively dry finish.

Drinkability - Pretty hoppy/bitter. I would probably mix these up with a couple other beers if I was to drink a few at a time. I think it would overwhelm me with bitterness if I drank a few of these in a row. I personally enjoyed the Green Flash Imperial IPA over this.

[edit] I'm still working through a six pack of these. I just do not like this beer. Each time I drink it, it is an utter chore to finish.
