Poured into a 12-oz mug, this beer is a nice reddish-amber color with a modest head and decent lacing. The nose is quite full of resinous/piney hop aroma... excellent hoppy aroma, worthy of being swirled around and sniffed for a good long time. The taste, likewise, is all hops: close to overwhelming resin flavor, very high bitterness, nothing but hops... even the ultra hoppy DFH provide some malt balance compared to this. It's a close call, but it's a bit too one-dimensional for my taste. (493 characters)

I'm tying on an iMac keyboard, so please excuse the fact that I am used to a Macbook.

Appearance: Great orange-amber colour. Medium-pale head on the pour. Looks beautiful.

Smell: Like it says on the label... There are a lot of hops in this brew. It smells like a strong EIPA, with definite US IPA notes(citrus, grass).

Taste: This beer is so bitter it's great! :) The grainy maltiness is definitely there, though. Citrusy and EIAP grassiness notes are blended perfectly. Great beer. I'm enjoying it for sure.

Mouthfeel: There is a lot of bitterness. The The aftertaste lingers for a few moments. Not oppressive or offensive in the least.

Drinkability: Well 5/6 in a 6-pack have been drunk. The alcohol makes this a significant beer-one that cannot be easily session-ed. However, the intense hop flavours, accentuated by the sweet maltiness make this an easy beer to drink a lot of.

Overall: I will buy again...I'm just amazed that this exceptional beer is available in Vancouver! (986 characters)

P- Grape and Gourmet in Va Beach!

A- pours a a frothy head. Very thick and lustrous. one and half finger and hangs around. A burnt orange color that is cloudy.

S- grapefruit and pine hops. slight malt and alcohol.

T- bitter hops with a taint of citrus. a yeasty/bready malt and alcohol is not prevalent at all. Very hoppy!

M- dry and and like biting into a biscuity hop. Too much hop for me but if you like hops you will like this bad boy.

D- not hard yet not easy for me. Like i said if you like hoppy beers you would like this. It is too dry and bitter for me. I have grown to like IPA's and this one reminds me of why i used to dislike them. a decent beer overall. (672 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a SweetWater pint glass. Pours a deep orange. Not much of a head on this one. Decent amount of lacing on the glass. Very hoppy aroma with some pine and citrus in there as well. Taste starts off as sweet, citrusy, and some pine and finishes pretty bitterly. Moderate amount of carbonation. A very drinkable brew. (337 characters)

pours a very peachy color with a fair white head and good lacing. The aroma is great! grapefruit, floral hops, subtle spicy hops, subtle lemon, hints of sweet malts. the taste is good but different. starts out as a typical IPA (grapefruit, lemon, hops) but finishes very oddly. strange bitterness, like a fusion of bitter hops and dry malts. medium bodied, medium carbo, dry finish (381 characters)

Pours a nice old copper with a thick white head, lots of sediment in the brew make it even cloudier, good carbonation keeps the head from going anywhere. Aroma is thick with fresh hops off the vine, piney with a touch of maple syrup. Taste is pure IPA, although the chalky aspirin-like bitterness reminds me of an East Coast IPA more than a West Coast, citrusy bitter goodness hides right behind that while a mild sweetness persist to balance the brew. Aspirin aftertaste finishes off bitter and coasts the tongue in hop oils.

Not the greatest West Coast IPA of all time, but certainly a great example of one. A must try and a welcome addition to my fridge. (658 characters)

A. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a glass beer mug. Brown with an off white head and some lace.

S. Piney west coast hops. Cascade and Simcoe?

T. Bready, biscuity malt balances the initial blast of bitter hops. A decent battle, with the hops winning out.

M. Slightly viscious and medium bodied.

D. Pretty good for an IPA. Not quite as good as a Stone IPA IMO, but still a worthy offering and one I will be having again. (424 characters)

A copper color...

Pungent weedy smell almost as if I have ran into a patch of dog fennel that used to grow beside my childhood trailer in Florida.

Overwhelming hops. More than expected. Each variety of hops has her unique bite. One citrus. One Herbal.

Goes down like lemonade on a hot summer day.

This gal is bitter... (324 characters)

Thanks to mikereaser for the chance to try this one.

A - Coppery orange color with a thick frothy tan head. Excellent retention and completely coats the glass with lacing.

S - Sweet biscuity malt and strong citrusy hops. Unique aroma in that the malt and hops both stand out and are not overshadowed by the other.

T - Biscuity pale malt taste up front quickly overcome by a sturdy, but not overwhelming, citrusy hop taste. The malt presence is a touch on the high side for me but still a damn tasty beer.

M/D - Medium bodied and very slick in the mouth. The hop resin seems to coat my tongue and linger long after the drink is gone. A very drinkable IPA. (658 characters)

S - Woody hops (heavy) with grapefruit (faint)

T - Bitter hops with some grapefruit. A little bit of pine.

M - Medium body with medium carbonation

D - Nothing special in the way of IPAs several others I enjoy (288 characters)

12oz bottle
95 IBUs
7% ABV

A- Pours a nice dark amber color with an off-white head that produces solid lace.

S- The aroma is awesome, pungent piney and citrusy hops dominate the aroma with some malt in the background.

T- The taste is unsurprisingly hoppy, with a long lingering bitterness lasting well after the sip. This is a West Coast IPA all the way, as the name suggests. Very good.

M- The mouthfeel is thin-medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation.

D- Very good IPA, the 95 IBUs are definitely felt and will cure any hop craving.

Overall, Green Flash West Coast IPA is an awesome IPA that packs the hop flavor. Recommended. (649 characters)

A mess of hop dusties float around to make a murk of dark yellowed, almost cardboard brown color. Jello-like glow to its body. Small, thick, and retaining whitish head of foam seeps up from the pour. Strings of lace are strewn out over the glass.

Aroma is sweet and appley with a clean and crisp peachy tinted citrus hop tone. Some slight pine oil ascents.

Nice taste with a good amount of balance to its crsip and crunchy aspects of citrusy things. A juicy peachy skin covers up a high pitched citrusy lemon and very ripe white grapefruit pithyness and potent tongue lashing of firm piney bitterness that wraps around the finish with a decent balance of toasted malt and breadyness.

Feel is super firm and medium in body. Makes a fast home on the palate with an immense hopitude tone and flavor complexity and creamy, lush, crisp, juicy, pithyness. The balance is very nicely done between a sweet bready toasted edge and it hoppy citrus side.

Quite yummy and very drinkable. Will need more please. (1,002 characters)

Ok, this is a great example of how the advent of private stores in BC has changed the level of what is available. No way 5 years ago could this Cali brewery show up in BC. Now all sorts of things are happening.

This is a first class IPA with All the right moves like an old Tom Cruise movie. Big Head, Dark gold colour and an amazing grapefruit hop nose that really opens up. The beer is hoppy all right but the balance is what makes this great. Big bloomy hops are anchored by a solid backline.
The finish is almost dry but the hops do not linger like some IPAs. Way too drinkable :) (585 characters)

Now this is an example of a west coast IPA, as depicted by the name. As soon as you pop the top, you get a very pungent smell of hops, definitely the most distinctive characteristic of this brew. One of the most bitter IPA's I have had, but at the same time not over the top. It's still very drinkable. I love it, and will seek it out anytime it's available to me. (364 characters)

Finally tried some West Coast IPA that I've been holding onto for a week or two. Appearance was nice. Head does go away a bit quickly though.

Smell is outstanding. Excellent blend of all these hops - but you can't smell much else. Although that's probably the point of an American IPA. At 7% ABV, I'm not sure if it's still an IPA and probably is in the gray area between an IPA and DIPA.

Taste was excellent. Very nice blend of hoppiness and the flavors that each imparts to this brew. It makes for a pleasant taste.

Mouthfeel was outstanding for something as bitter as this should be. Went down smooth and clean even though it was very bitter and left a hoppy/bitter aftertaste. It wasn't a bad aftertaste though... but you sure feel that wallop from the hops but that doesn't detract from how smooth it goes down.

Drinkability is excellent. I would definitely stock up on this brew if it ran less than $15 a 6 pack. For now though, I'll enjoy the rest of the sixer that I've got and maybe buy some more in a few months. It might be sessionable but definitely don't plan on driving after that session. (1,107 characters)

Poured a glass bottle into a glass mug.

A: Pours a cloudy, amber body with a white head with poor retention, but with some decent lacing.

S: A nice, hoppy smell with some sweet, citrus undertones.

T: A nice, dry hoppy taste with a earthy, sweet citrus aftertaste that did well to compliment the hop taste. After a few drinks, the alcohol in the beer was quite warming. Nice, well-balanced taste overall.

M: A smooth and silky mouthfeel that is very pleasant on the palette.

D: A nice, drinkable IPA with a good combination of mouthfeel and taste. A smooth and easy going beer that I could drink for a while. A very nice brew. (630 characters)

Am reviewing the tap version because I think it's so much better than the bottle. It's worth seeking out.

A-Pours a clear gold with a thin white head and some nice lacing.

S-Strong citrus hops dominate the nose with lots of grapefruit goodness. Also some piney hops and a little hint of malt behind.

T-Lots of hops all the way through. Like the nose, the citrus hops dominate but there is a some pine also. A bit of malt balances out the bitter finish very nicely.

M-Really nice carbonation and a rather light mouthfeel given the hop bitterness. A bit resiny but only a bit.

D-A great IPA that I could drink all night.

When I read earlier this year that this beer won a blind IPA taste test, I was quite surprised. At that point, I had only tried the bottled version which is just ok for me. Once I tried the tap version I understood. A terrific beer.

When poured in the glass, the color was a hazy amber with an orange hue. The smell of hops was not overpowering. But, hops was all I could smell on this IPA. The flavor was weak for me. I picked up a weak flavor of hops and that was it. The finish was bitter, dry, but again, not much of a flavor, just hops. (308 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass thanks mike at brawley

appearance: medium amber with some rustyn orange. thin head that is very foamy and white with lots of bubbles

aroma: juicyfruit, pine and just sweet delicious hops, im getting centennial big time

taste: this beer hits your palate strongly and stings the whole tounge. rampant bitterness, however controlled with a flavorful malt that exhibits some characteristics of apricot and citrus. the hops clearly, clearly dominate finishing bitter, but hoppy pleasurable bitter and makes you want that next sip.

overall: awesome IPA, one of my favorites and ive had as many as I have been able to get my hands on. If it wasnt for the abv id say its an awesome session beer since its so tasty and pleasurable to drink. If you like IPA's, this one is an absoulte must try. (827 characters)

The ultimate hop experience!

Had it first at a beer festival and couldn't taste any of the other beers after having it. Very strong citrus flavor and exceptional aroma make this a hophead's holy grail! Really an imperial IPA without the extra malt.

Extreme, over the top, unique! Great as a finish beer to a session of IPA's! (327 characters)

Big thanks to grub for sharing this bottle.

Pours a clear amber, very thick and chunky white head, big bubbled ring forms around the glass along with a solid layer, drops a ton of lace. Smell is awesome, big pine and grapefruit, caramel, orange rings, some floral, very hoppy. Taste is pine and grapefruit, more rind, tangerine, jasmine and green tea, grain, caramel, and a thick bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, very smooth and drinkable. Very nice IPA, I'd drink this all day if I could. Thanks Russ! (545 characters)

The appearance was a really nice orangish amber, and the smell was distinctly piney. As expected, the citrusey flavors followed very strongly (and tastily!), but this was not as bitter as I was expecting. I don't mean that as a negative, because my surprise was probably what caused my beer to be gone in a flash.

This was an exceptionally tasty, drinkable brew. I am probably a hophead, but a friend who isn't tried mine and agreed with me. Green Flash really has a great malt presence to back this beer up, and it comes through in every taste. The result really took me by surprise, but it was an IPA that brought all of the citrusey, piney taste of an IPA but with an almost sweet profile in the background.

I applaud Green Flash for this slightly different IPA. I will definitely be picking up a quantity of this to continue to enjoy. This is the kind of beer that I could envision sipping on all evening. (912 characters)

Pours a dark golden, almost amber color with a thick rocky head. Boatloads of hop aroma, with grapefruit and citrus notes. A true San Diego IPA. The flavor is well-balanced even with the massive amounts of hops used. Lots of lace, good CO2. Extremly drinkable. (260 characters)

Pours from a 12oz. stubby brown bottle into the sam adams glass. It's a hazy orange color with a surprising amount of yeasty floaties despite a slow careful pour. Good head but it's gone in a flash. Some lacing is left behind.

Aroma is pleasant fresh piney hops.

Taste is especially strong but I guess that's what they mean by "west coast" IPA. I suppose someone on the east coast might call this imperial?! Nice and bitter, some sweetness, and even a little yeasty bread flavor.

Mouthfeel is nice but a little high in both carbonation and alcohol.

Drinkability would be higher if it wasn't so bitter.

A good IPA but a bit too bitter for my taste.

It should be noted that I had this several months ago at the Falling Rock and really enjoyed it. Seems likely that this would be better on tap. (798 characters)
