Best by 3/4/14, so probably about 22 days old.
Appearance: A surprisingly dark caramel/amber and hazy body with a frothy off-white head. Pretty dark for a beer named "West Coast IPA" but I'll play along.
Aroma: A beautiful bouquet of west coast hops at their finest. Dankness and sweet grapefruit.
Taste: Starts with crisp bitterness right out of the gate. Real mellow caramel and amber malt keeping things from getting out of hand in the hops department, although there is some serious bitterness that keeps the word 'balanced' from being necessary in describing the flavor. The hop profile is earthy with some great floral notes near the finish and pure bitterness in the aftertaste. Not quite juicy but getting there in some respects.
Mouthfeel: Medium in body with somewhat lively carbonation. Average drinkability.
Final Thoughts: It's nice to review an IPA that's a) fresh and b) good. While probably not cracking my top 5, Green Flash West Coast IPA is a very good beer. I've gradually become harsher on grading beer (especially IPAs, as they make up one of my favorite styles) and it is obviously reflected in the final score. However, let it be known that this beer is heads and shoulders above any other run-of-the-mill American IPA swill that so many pop-up breweries are releasing. But I digress. Would I drink it again? For as long as Green Flash distributes to MN.

Green Flash West Coast IPA is the brew that turned me onto IPA's.
It pours into a glass a deep copper, and it's head foams nicely.
This IPA has a crisp and clean smell with hints of pine.
The taste is strong, and refreshing. The ABV is on point!
Overall, this is one of the best American IPA's brewed in the west Coast.

Poured into DFH IPA glass. Golden orange, translucent, with a thick fluffy off-white head that sticks around leaving tons of thick, intricate lacing.
Smell is pine, leafy and herbal hops, sweet grapefruit and citrus notes, hint of tropical fruits and flowers.
Taste is clean, sweet crackery malt immediately obliterated by hops. Opening salvos of pine and herbal bitterness are underscored by lighter notes of citrus and even lighter tropical/floral qualities, and it all comes crashing down into a hellishly bitter finish that leaves no taste bud standing.
Mouthfeel is clean and a bit wet, but the hops destroy that and leave a dry finish.
Overall, definitely lives up to its name. Piney bitterness abounds; maybe my palate has been wrecked (Green Flash pun intended), but even this beer, which is often cited as incredibly bitter, doesn't seem unbalanced to me. I'd usually prefer a tropical/floral IPA to a piney/bitter one, but it's still an amazing IPA. Extremely well-done.
