From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue V:

Brewed with Summit and Nugget hops to measure up to 101 IBUs, not 100 or 102, but 101. Not that it matters because the taste threshold for most people is about 80 IBUs. Three fingers of off-white head hold strong with a very impressive display of lacing down the glass. Clear brassy color. Smells of tangerines, crushed hemp seeds, fresh mint, black pepper, evergreen, ruby-red grapefruit and wildflowers from the hops; with some ripe passion fruit and pineapple juice from the alcohol. Slight bready tone in the nose but mild compared to the hops. Creamy up front with a slow rolling smoothness in the back. Hop bitterness nearly strangles the life out of our taste buds. After things settle down, flavors of faint white peppercorn, dried grass and pungent citric rind. Maltiness is there but more as the foundation to the full body, what biscuity flavors are present are blanketed by the massive hop presence. Alcohol is deceiving, it is warming but it does not come across as 9.0 percent ABV. The finish is a long, drawn out ramble of hop flavor and bitterness that leans to the dry side.

Excessively hopped with just enough malt to get by. Without a doubt, this beer goes down the righteous path to Imperial IPA and is a trophy beer for any veteran hophead.

Half-bomber poured into imperial pint glass.

A: Pours quite hazy. A deep tangerine hue in the center with sun-kissed honey around the edges. Absolutely gorgeous color. Cream colored head starts off at a perfect two-finger stature. Eventually fades down to about a 1/2" and retains well until the end. Big splotches of lacing left in random locations around the glass.

S: Big wave of citrus hops. Pink grapefruit, orange peel, touches of lemon underneath. Grapefruit dominates, mostly. A bit of earthy pine takes over the aroma as the beer warms in the glass. Peppery booze also peeks through as it approaches room temperature. A little surprised I didn't pick up any malt presence.

T: Admittedly, this brew is approaching its enjoy-by date so I know for a fact that this isn't as much of a hop bomb as it once was, but hops STILL dominate the palate with their floral bitterness. Grapefruit takes the passenger seat for those floral hops, which I find to be quite nice—a bit more rustic rather than citrusy. Malt comes through in the middle adding just a shade of balance, but is overall dominated by the hops. Finishes piney and bitter. Some alcohol warmth lingers in the aftertaste.

M: Full-bodied, but doesn't touch chewiness. Lots of creaminess with an effervescent carbonation. Green Flash describes this as "quaffable" on their label, and I'm going to have to agree with that wholeheartedly. Wonderfully drinkable. Becomes a LITTLE harder to sip often as it warms; the alcohol really starts to show its face and slows you down.

O: My second offering from Green Flash and so far they're 2-for-2 when it comes to delivering excellent beers. I noted before that this one was nearing its enjoy-by date, so I'm going to assume that it's not as fresh as it could have been, but that didn't hinder its enjoyability at all. It was still a hop bomb that provided everything I look for. I wasn't floored by it, but I enjoyed it more than the standard fare. Would really like to try this again, but a bit fresher.
