A: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Body is reddish-amber with lots of particulate in suspension. Small ivory head. Leaves some splotchy lace behind.
S: Herbal hops over caramel malt.
T: Dry, bitter hops over slight caramel malt foundation. Mettalic twang at the back end and lingering into the aftertaste. More hop head than red -- i.e., more hops than malt. Very dry lingering hop bitterness coats the palate.
M: Active, fine carbonation at the back end of the sip. Slightly lighter than medium in heft.
Notes: I like my hoppy reds to have a stronger malt foundation. This is good stuff, just not my preference for the style. Call it a "San Diego Red Ale" and it makes sense.
