A luscious beauty, Hop Head Red® exudes resinous hoppy qualities from Amarillo, Warrior and Nugget to overtake the full-bodied depths of a caramel malt base. Captivating and seductive floral aromas and alluring hop flavors are the result of dry hopping with mountains of Amarillo. The blissful union of Double India Pale and Red Ale make Hop Head Red an unforgettable obsession. Experience love at first sip. Every time.

Purchased from Sam's in durham, to my knowledge the only place in the region that sells said beer.

Very thick, heavy appearance upon pouring, and indeed, upon tasting. Much more complexity in texture than i was initially expecting. Hop flavor is evident but is far from overwhelming the beer.

Reminded me a great deal of arrogant bastard ale (one of my favorites), which i was not expecting. Despite relative heaviness of the beer, was still easy and pleasant to drink, though i'm not sure i could deal with more than a couple in a sitting.

The bottled experience here was surprisingly more pleasant than the experience i had with it on tap. I will be buying more of this when I return to Sams, as this probably ranks in with my top ten current beers.

A: deep amber brown with red-orange highlights; few fingers of tan head slimmed to a persistent foam cap

S: floral orange citrus, subtler resin and caramel malt; some suggestions of pith and pine

T: sweet caramel malts push through the citrus and flower of the hops, and some spicy and herbal elements appear

M: medium-weight and fuzzy smooth, mild chewiness, rustic and hearty

O: a nice ale, combining a red with an IPA and using Amarillo, Warrior and Nugget hops. Possibly more attractive to fans of red/amber ales than to fans of pale ales.
