12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy dark reddish-brown with a one finger white head. Lacing is nearly nonexistent along with just the thinnest bit of lacing over top of the beer.

Aroma is full of caramel with some woody notes and a touch of pine. A bit of candy sweetness comes through too along with a touch of vanilla.

Flavor doubles down on the pine, wood, earth, and tree bark along with a huge bitterness that lasts throughout. After the initial hit, wood and vanilla linger on but eventually cave to the overriding bitterness from the hops. The mouthfeel is very nice on this having some body and limited sweetness.

Overall, this beer has the basics of something good but is just missing a bit in the flavor department. I would love to have some more malt and hop flavors come through and the bitterness toned down.

Bottle dated best by 12/6/14:
Pours a nice rusty brown, quite clear, and with a light tan head that sticks around a bit. Lacing is nice. Nose is floral, but almost a bit "dirty" - in that it has a smell of dirt, which by definition perhaps is earthy. I get the malty notes of an amber, but it's combined with the hops (that are piney in themselves from the taste) to create an interesting floral note.

The taste is more dominated by the hops. The front taste is a bit of brown sugar, a little copper, but this doesn't last long at all. The bitterness starts with grapefruit rind, but transforms to light pine. The feel is definitely resinous, drying the end if the taste, and allowing the bitter notes to stay on the tongue.

The mix of sweeter malt and resinous bitterness doesn't work for me, or at least it rarely does, and this is no exception. This beer isn't a surprise given it's a Green Flash beer, so if you like their stuff, this could work for you.
