Poured a clear bronze with a voluminous head that stayed around a little while. Small dots of lacing.
Funky orange zest up the nose and on the palate.
Nice solid dry finish.
I'm really starting to dig this style. As always, more research is warranted. Cheers! (259 characters)

Purchased at Champagne's outside of Detroit for $7.00 for a 650ml bottle. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass

A- Opens well and pours a 2" high white head that lasts forever. Film out was over 5mins after pour! Dark gold color and filtered almost clear

S- Oodles of hops.

T- A but funky. Has a hop bite but not a lot of malt backbone. Touch sour. Zero heat even though it's nearly 10%.

M- Dry and tart

O- Very good brew overall. Has a bite to it but is refined enough to sip on for an hour. Opens well as it heats up. Touch sour

Food Pairing

This nice little brew went well with....... Spicy stir fry. This IPA just bit right through the dish.

L - light Amber, typical
S - Bannanas, normal Belgian yeast smell
T - more of a Belgian than IPA I would say but I did like, decent aftertaste
F - nice carbonation
O - I usually don't care for Belgian beer, but this had enough IPA qualities that I did enjoy, probably not enough to justify the price however... (310 characters)

750ml bottle. No bottle date on label. Appearance: Golden, slight haze, and moderate off white foam head. Aroma: Belgian yeast aroma dominates, with strong banana, pear, and clove. Also pick up a light grassy, citrus hop aroma. Aroma leans more heavily toward a tripel than IIPA. Taste: Starts with a soft malt sweetness and fruity clove character of a tripel, then transforms into a really strong hop bitterness that immediately stops the fruitiness. Tastes like two completely seperate beers that came together in one. Mouthfeel: medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Finish: Dry with a strong lingering bitterness. Fruity yeast retronasal aroma. Overall: A robust, strong, bitter ale that is surprisingly easy drinking. Beautiful aroma lends it to the combo of the desired styles. If I could recommend one change it would be to back down the bitterness a few notches to let the yeast shine more in the taste and finish. Once that bitterness kicks in it overrides all the other flavors that make this a great hybrid. (1,027 characters)

Hazy look throughout, Outstanding smell to this beer! I think the taste is easy wand fruity with a huge aftertaste. Aftertaste is bitter and alcohol, a little to strong. (171 characters)

22 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass

A: Dark orange, amber with a bright white head, head is creamy, puffy, decent amount of carbonation stream, heavy lacing, cloudy, looks really good.

A: Belgian yeast aroma comes through really strong, doesn't smell very hoppy, for the high ABV I'm not getting any alcohol, smells more earthy, grainy than it does hoppy.

T: Belgian yeast flavors, then hoppy bitterness, finishes with a slight citrus bitterness but has a stronger piney, earthy bitterness to it.

M: Medium mouthfeel with a dry finish, not much carbonation on the mouth.

O: This is different, I am very familiar with American IPA but not so much with Belgian IPAs, this is a big beer with lots of flavor. (718 characters)

One of my favorite double Belgian IPA's for sure.

Smell is Belgian yeast funkiness upfront overtaken by the big hop nose, citrusy flavor upfront, then earthy and piney flavors in the finish. Beautiful color in white head, little orange peel and citrus smell.

Taste is also very sharp and bitter, but so good: similar to the aroma, where the Belgian yeast funkiness presents first, then the hoppy flavors follow; hops are similarly citrus and earthy blend, with a lingering biting flavor from the piney/earthy flavor.
Very good beer, would recommend to anyone. (565 characters)

Beautiful color, thick off white head. Definitely get the Belgian yeast on the nose, along with some orange and fruit. Complex, delicious taste. A very nice hop presence, along with a lingering bitterness. Great Belgian IPA. (224 characters)

Poured into a small tulip glass, color is copper, large head, color is off white to light tan, large bubbles and medium bubbles.

Smell is one of the best of the bipa range: large belgian yeast funkiness upfront overtaken by the big hop nose, citrusy flavor upfront, then earthy and piney flavors in the finish.

Taste is also very good: similar to the aroma, where the belgian yeast funkiness presents first, then the hoppy flavors follow; hops are similarly citrus and earthy blend, with a lingering biting flavor from the piney/earthy flavor.

Mouthfeel is also very good: sweeter forward presence, then lingering bitter and drying finish.

Overall, a very good beer presents itself in the aroma and follows through in the flavors as a very good expression of the style (774 characters)

Pours a cloudy amber color with a thick foamy head. Head retention and lacing are excellent. Piney, citrus aroma with slight caramel. The booziness is evident. Silky malty taste up front, then you get hit with a wallop of a piney hop burst. Citrus at the end. The Belgian yeast is evident. Very good beer. Thoroughly enjoyed. (333 characters)

A: slight haze; burnt orange in color; 1 finger off white head that receded to a thin cap; OK lacing;

S: restrained; white grapefruit and coriander;

T: herbal up front; coriander is predominant at mid-palate; nice balance between grapefruit and coriander at the finish; moderately bitter at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; medium dry finish;

O: flavor is tremendous and that's what is really important; (423 characters)

I love how it opens like a Belgian trippel, and finishes similar to an IPA. One of my favorites. What I'd hoped Stone's Cali-Belgique would be but isn't. (153 characters)

Fruit and floral nose. Pours orange-amber with a 1” off white foam cap that descends to a thick film. Hazy peach color, lacy. On the palate fruit, especially peach, a trace of earthiness, white bread, citrus. A very faint hint of bubble gum to hard candi. Very nice bitter emphasis on the finish to balance the fruit and the sugars and malt on the finish. Very creamy above average carbonation. Medium body. (409 characters)

Hazy golden-orange, good initial head with a permanent lace ring.

Belgian yeast, clove, green grass, amarillo citrus

Mellow pepper and peach in the forefront, slowly morphing into a citrusy but dry finish. Complex and drinkable.

Fairly thick and viscous mouthfeel.

I'll pick this up again if I see it. Very nicely done. (324 characters)

22 oz bomber poured into glass.
L: Nice orange color. Quite hazy.
Off-white head that lingers a while.
S: Fruitiness you'd expect from a Belgian yeast with malt and alcohol.
T: Nice malty flavor. The alcohol flavor is not as pronounced as you would expect from the scent. The Belgian fruitiness is definitely there. There's also a nice hoppy IPA bitterness.
F: Medium body. Highly carbonated.
O: Overall, I can see why Le Freak is so popular. Green Flash has successfully blended Belgian and IPA styles into a delicious brew. (532 characters)

I'll admit, my first Belgian IPA...my frame of reference is Trappist brews and American IPAs. The IPAness is there, but it feels like a good Belgian ale, not a good IPA...I will have to reevaluate. (197 characters)

Just tasted this beer. Pours a nice reddish amber hazy beer. Smells sweet and alcoholic. Taste is odd, sweet, then fruity then bitter as hell, bitterness keeps growing with each sip, It was hard to enjoy. (204 characters)

Tastes as golden as it looks. Wonderful blend of the Belgian and American IPA styles. A Tripel on the nose but a hoppy finish. Even a little bit herbal? floral? spicy? Such a complex profile.

Smells of banana laffy taffy, clove, pepper, and fruit, also getting hints of pine and juicyfruit gum.
Tastes pretty similar to aroma, mainly a buttery banana that coats the mouth but doesn't linger to long ending with a slightly piney bitter hop finish you would expect in a IPA.
Interesting beer overall was looking for something different and this indeed was. (362 characters)

Poured into a Dogfish Head IPA glass.

A - 4.25 - Looks identical to apple juice in color. Ridiculous head potential, foamed up quick, forming a 4 finger, slightly off white colored head. Good head retention and nice solid lacing.
S - 3 - Strange. Sweet hops, grapefruit and oranges, but also some spices such as clove and nutmeg, lots of yeast and that distinct, bubblegum aroma that Belgian goldens have.
T - 2 - Not liking this one bit. Upfront there is a nice sweet citrus taste, but it quickly fades to the aforementioned spices and bubblegum of the aroma.
F - 4 - Standard expected mouthfeel.
O - 2 - To me, this is not a Belgian style IPA but rather an IPA mixed with a Belgian golden and tripel. I understand that Belgian yeast strains are used in the production, but there is just way too much bubblegum and spice in this for me to call it an IPA at all. Didn't enjoy this one bit and thus cannot recommend it. (920 characters)

Served in a Belgian tulip at Nob Hill Bar & Grill.

A- Frothy pale white head. Creamy and sticky lace. Orange and copper color with good clarity. 4.5

S- Sweet malt and yeast with a bright floral quality. Faint citrus and lilies. 4

T- Like the nose heavy on sweet malt, caramelized, with aggressive yeast that provides floral notes before a juicy orange finish. 4

M- Sweet and yeasty if I haven't said so already. But there's a sharp bitterness that lingers and a touch of tasteful tartness that slides in almost without being perceivable. 4.25

Yeah, this is an excellent beer. Nice to find recently tapped as GF isn't easy to find fresh. (642 characters)

Almost everything I want in a beer...
Head is super frothy, really depends on the pour, I have gotten 2-4 fingers on different occasions
The Belgian yeast mixed with hops combination is delicious, great combination of beer styles
There is definitely a banana/bubblegum taste, like Juicy Fruit, but not over powering and washed out with the hops
A grand mouth feeling (366 characters)

Aroma is floral, citrus, corriander.
Tastes complex. Orange, banana and spices, peppery.
Mouth feel Is wonderful. Under tongue. Bitter. Carbonation indicative of Belgium ales. (237 characters)

Draft at Collective. Review from 6/30/14.

Pours amber with two finger white head. Nose is hoppy banana bread. Definitely Belgian yeast. Flavor is quite unique - some fruity banana hops and melon followed by a citrus finish. It is growing on me with each sip. Medium/full body, moderate carbonation. I liked this more than I expected. (340 characters)
