12oz bottle into Duvel tulip.
Appearance: Free pour yields a 3 inch rocky tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves tons of lacing. Pours a brownish black and covers the glass in lacing.
Smell: Smooth nutty roasted malt, with a creamy coffee ice cream and pistachio tinge to it. Smokey firewood and coffee. Great.
Taste: Roasted malt up front, then a kick of resinous hops. Long, well developed finish with various roasted malt flavors. Definite woody smokiness to everything, which works really well.
Really good imperial stout. Tons of roasted malt, heavy but appropriate hop flavor (doesn't clash and tastes as woodsy as the bold malt flavors), high bitterness but not overboard, long sip-rewarding aftertaste, and enough sweetness to balance the dominant harsher flavors. Alcohol well concealed.
Mouthfeel: Full side of medium bodied. Creamy but a bit watery. Nice finish, neither dry nor heavy/sticky/sugary.
Overall: Really solid beer. Great value, competitive with Old Rasputin and other heavy hitter every-day stouts. Glad Green Flash has moved into CT. Might default to this beer in the winter if I'm not in the mood for Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout.
