I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Black with a lingering two finger dark tan head. Nice amount of thick lacing.

Smell- Dark chocolate and roasted malt with a hint of booziness.

Taste- Dark roasted malt with some char and chocolate notes. No trace of the booziness that I detected in the nose.

Mouthfeel- Full bodied, smooth, and creamy. Perfect amount of carbonation for the style.

Overall- Great tasting stout. I would highly recommend this.

A: Poured a half finger head that settles to a mocha thin cap. Color is pitch black. Lacing is present but does not stick around.

S: Roasty, creamy, fruity. Dark fruits, espresso beans, ash, thick malt, chocolate. It is like I'm breathing in a mocha coated steam room.

T: The roasted malt provides a solid backbone. As the beer enters my palate, I taste the grassy hops, bittersweet chocolate, plums, raisons, a touch of cinnamon.

M: Balanced. Creamy and smooth. Carbonation is tingly and full, it's like I'm home.

O: One of my favorite sessionable stouts, this one rises to the top.

bottle poured into tulip

A - A perfect black color, with a nice dark roasty brown head at the top that leaves lacing the whole time you drink.

S - Sweet nose, chocolate, a slight hint of coffee and dark fruits throughout.

T - Almost just like the nose, lots of chocolate and coffee throughout this experience, great tasting and roasty.

M - Low carbonation and nice creamy mouthfeel.

O - A great tasting stout from GreenFlash, enjoyed this brew very much, great for a cold night.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Pours a deep black with a nice tan head. It dissipated to a ring but with some decent lacing.

Aroma is nice and roasty. But of caramel and some dark chocolate. Some coffee too.

Taste is a solid stout. Just a nice and roasty and smooth stout. The roast bites the tongue in the finish. Decent amount of caramel. Some dark chocolate and a bit of espresso flavors.

Mouthfeel is smooth and has a nice carb.

Overall a tasty stout. Nothin fancy just a solid stout. Will be having this often.

A: Looks like coca-cola. Like cold press coffee. Black as hell.

S: Coffee, dark chocolate- the whole lot. Malty.

T: Coffee, creamy dark chocolate. I get fudge too. Like really great fudge.

M: Chewy. Coincides nicely with the fudge note.

O: Like a sweeter, more chewy, fudgier Old Rasputin.

Dark, nearly black in color with a foamy khaki colored head. Good retention.

Smells nutty, with deep roasty tones. I get a bit of a burned smell at the end and a hint of coffee, but it's subtle.

The coffee taste is more pronounced than the nose let on; surprising but it's nice. Follows up with some earthy flavors. Very nice.

Feels thick and robust. Carbonation is a bit on the low side. A bit creamy, I would say.

This is a very good stout. Reminds me a bit of Old Rasputin. After a good experience with Green Flash's IPA and now this, I will definitely keep an eye out for more of their stuff in the future.

12oz. bottle served into a tulip glass

Pours an expected ink-black color (well, there's sorta' some lighter brown at the very bottom of the glass), with an unexpected amount of head: two entire fingers of evenly tan foam. It laces like a dream, too. Great looking stout.

The majority of this beer's aroma comes from just grains. You can smell the grain bill like it was a mix of malts laying in a bag. It smells like dried malt and maybe some wort too; this is so beery. Imagine walking through a brewery but there's also some Cocoa Puffs being eaten by the brewers. That's what Double Stout smells like. Not as roasty smelling as I would like. There's some dark fruits on the back end of the nose, but this is really about grain.

I think I'm going to score the taste a 4.0. It's close, but it's so tasty and drinkable that it gets the bump up despite its lack of complexity. The biggest flavors I get are Dr. Pepper and molasses. There's molasses for days, and it plays very well with the dark-sugars-meets-prune component going on (that so reminds me of Dr. Pepper). There's an honest hop flourish on the midpalate. Not as roasted as it probably should be, and there is actually minimal chocolate or coffee here (what little there is peeks out mostly on the finish). So, yeah, not super-complex. But drinkable and enjoyable.

There's a small amount of chewiness to the mouthfeel, but it's not quite as thick as you want it to be. Still, it's on a mouthfeel par with, say, Old Rasputin (which is this beer's closest, most accurate comparison/competition). Overall, it's a good imperial stout in a market that's full of great ones. A decent buy in 4-packs, but I'd probably buy Old Rasputin first at a similar price point.
