I don't like dark Beer I would never order one or purchase in a store, until now. I tried the Double Stout as part of a tasting and I could not get enough. It pours like Jagermeister, very thick. I usually drink ales and lagers, so I prepared my knife and fork to get threw the sample.

I took a wiff and was very suprised, very pleasing, had a nice head but not so thick that you would need a straw. It was smooth, like silky smooth, not bitter or heavy. Some coffee like qualities in the taste, rich and creamy. Its not what I usually come to expect from a dark beer, I usually find stouts to be undrinkable, this beer is craveable.

It says in the guidelines that 5's should be rare, so i gave a couple of 4.5's as I am not an expert in beer tasting I cant grade mouth feel or smell but I can't imagine any possible improvement to the taste and apperance, so overall it has to be a 5 in my book. Welcome to Florida Green Flash.

A- Pitch black with an aggressive foamy cappuccino head. The head settles but swirls around the top of the beer until the end. Looks delicious.

S- Deep malts, although not much in the direction of dried fruit which heavy stouts often seem to go, just big roasty malt and coffee. A little spicy hopping in the backgound

T- Chocolate right off the bat. Not a bitter chocolate like i would have expected, more a smooth creamy milk chocolate that quickly gets swallowed by a deep bitter coffee. There is a little hop presence but it simply keeps the tongue from getting too caught up in all the big malts and provides the beer with some nice length.

M- on the lighter side of medium heavy. I would have liked a little more body, perhaps even a little more carbonation, but it carries the beer well enough.

O- I really love this beer. Easily my favorite by Green Flash so far. Big, malty, complex yet somehow completely cohesive. They didnt just go swinging big, they plotted and planned and delivered delivered a single knockout blow.

Poured from 12oz bottle into ommegang-style tulip at Lagers in Metarie, LA. Pours a deep black/brown color with slight tan head. Smells of bitter coffee and roasted malts with slight hop aromas and chocolate. Taste is bitter roasted malts, some coffee and chocolate, and a trace of dried fruit - but I maybe wishing it. Its a good double stout, but I like my double stouts a little more intense. This just felt a little lacking in flavor and wow factor to be amazing...but it is very good and Id have again.

Opaque black with a thumb sized, bubbly brown head on top that stays well given the abv. of the beer. It eventually settles as a thin lacing with some sticking to the sides as well.

Dark roasted malts and cocoa with a strong helping of chocolate and an earthy, nutty aroma with stronger than expected sweetness. There is definitely some sugar and even some dark fruits, perhaps a hint of cherries too with a little spice.

Coffee and roasted malt flavours to begin along with some dark cocoa and rich chocolate, all of which is complimented with some background sweetness and a little bit of fruit. A nice, well rounded flavour.

Medium to full and quite creamy to begin with before finishing a little grainy and definitely dry with medium to strong bitterness levels and moderate carbonation and a very slight hint of alcohol.

A nice stout with a good, subdued fruity twist towards the end that was unexpected. The beer is a good one but by no means a great stout and probably a little strong for me to seek out again without it really blowing me away. It was pleasant enough and drinkable.

After countless bottles downed over the years, finally getting around to hashing out a review. Double stout pours a shade or two above the color of a black hole. Not the darkest of stouts, but more than black enough. Things are topped off by a couple of fingers worth of khaki head. Head settles to a ring. Plenty of lace is left in its wake.

Double Stout smells deep, dark, and roasty. Dark roasted coffee stands out front. Dark chocolate notes hit next. Hops present as well lending to some earthy notes. Some light caramel and molasses notes round things out.

The taste follows the nose. Strong coffee notes hit first. Dark roasted coffee shines. Beneath the coffee chocolate shines. Dark chocolate notes dominate mid palate. Some lightly sweetish caramel and molasses notes hit next. Some earthy notes rounds things out. The the long lingering finish is chocked full of more coffee notes.

Double Stout is a nice full bodied beer. The carbonation is adequate.

Green Flash Double Stout is a welcome harbinger of colder weather. While not reaching the same heights as other strong stouts, this brew hits all the right notes. The alcohol is quite well masked, making for a brew that doesn't drink as strong as it is. Another top notch brew from the folks at Green Flash.

Pitch black with a two finger mocha head with very nice retention and lacing. Lots of dark roasted malt in the aroma, as well as dark bitter chocolate, smoke, and cocoa. Doesn't smell like it should be overly sweet.

Lots of dark roasted malt, and bitter dark chocolate in the taste. There is also some cocoa, smoke, and some earthiness. More bitter than sweet.

Medium bodied with average carbonation, and a lot of dark roasted malt in the aftertaste. This is a decent stout, but not one of the best in its class.

A: Pours a pure sludge black with 3 fingers of cappuccino style head. Really nice retention and lacing.

S: Deep coffee tones with chocolate and anise. Notes of toffee with just a touch of caramel.

T: Smoky and sweet. Chocolate and coffee proceed lavishly. The finish is crazy dry, but not unpleasant. Retains its roastiness to offset the pucker.

MF: I'd like a little more thickness for the boldness of this brew. Very gentle for a stout with very little carbonation. Almost too little...almost.

O: Here's a beer that drinks like it's twice as aged as it was. Coffee-heavy stouts like Velvet Merlin could learn a thing or two with the dry, but flavorful finish on this brew. Earthy and dry. A pleasure to drink.
