A - Dark as night with a foamy mocha head. Sticky as hell - each drink produces window shade like up and down with the thin lace of chocolatey head.

S - Fresh brewed Coffee, malts, chocolate.

T - Big and rich smokey flavor to start, malty and balanced. As it comes to room temp, more of the roasted malts come to the forefront. Finishes with an anise bitter. Dry. This is a very drinkable 9% ABV.

O - Greenflash continues to impress - nicely crafted and complex Stout.

A- impenetrably black. Big foamy khaki head lasts and leaves nice lacing.

S- mostly dark chocolate and a hint of coffee.

T- big bitter roast malt. Nice flavor but nothing defining about it.

M- smooth but not all that thick.

O- a good stout but nothing overwhelming about it

Dark black with a robust two finger head that was slow to settle to a thick cap. Moderate amount of lacing is left down the glass.

The nose is the weakest part of this beer. A lot of alcohol with just a hint of dark chocolate. Really disappointing aroma.

A lot of alcohol in the flavor as well. Starts off a bit sweet before the booze and roasted malt overpower it in the finish. A tad harsh and not easy to drink. Notes of coffee and bitter chocolate.

The body is not the size I expect from an almost 9% ABV beer. The carbonation is great though and makes the most of the moderate body.

I expected so much more after hearing so many positive remarks and seeing the BA score. I like my big stouts to deliver more flavor than alcohol.

Double Stout Black Ale from Green Flash Brewing Co. pours the darkest blackest maroon I have ever seen, ever. Head went to about two fingers of tan foam that settled down to a full carpet with ample lacing down the sides of my beer mug.

Nose was a bit metallic with whiffs of burnt bitter hops and just hints of 8.8% by volume alcohol.

This brew is not a "Stout" but rather a well done German Schwarzbier, "Black Ale". When I took this brew off of the shelf at the store, I thought that I was buying a "Double Stout"... This is straight and away a "Black Beer" with that characteristic "Kingsford® Charcoal Briquette" taste profile.

Bitter chocolate and a deep dried fig mask the alcohol content almost completely, until the after taste.

All in all, not a bad offering from the "Green Flash Brewing Co."

12oz bottle
dated: best before 8-30-14
oversized wine glass

A- Pours a near black with a finger high head of dark mocha. ring around the glass after 3-4 minutes, nice sticky lacing.

S- Dark malts, chocolate, some coffee, hints of brown sugar, some alcohol.

T- Very strong alcohol / hops bite right up front, followed by some roasted malt, some bitter chocolate, bitter coffee. Alcohol is surprisingly overpowering throughout the drink, much more than what your nose tells you.

M- full body, creamy smooth and fizz until you swallow.

O- Average nose, and to me this bottle anyway the alcohol is overpowering any balance of the flavors, I have another that I will probably sit on for a year or so and see if it settles down some.
