It lives up to its name. This is a great hoppy beer of you like imperial or double IPA's. The way it hits you is very aggressive, it is true hop lovers dream beer. The 9.5% ABV is blended well with the malts so although a bitter beer, it finished smooth. This is one of the strongest hopped beers I have had.

Tasted overwhelmingly old. Served at Zapp's Beer Fest.

Finally getting around to reviewing this bad-boy. Been waiting in the fridge for quite a while.

Appearance 3.75: Great looking beer, pours out a deep golden color. Nice, creamy, 1/2" head. Decent lacing.

Smell 4.25: Great bouquet. Very (of course!) hop-forward, but interestingly, the hops that are forward are all citrus: grapefruit, candied orange rind and almost a crystallized ginger smell.

Taste 4.5: Front is big with a massive kick of hoppiness, but very little sweetness. Middle is where a giant wave of malt and alkaline hoppiness hits you like a mule. But, this is all well-balanced and smooth. Finish is a rain of alkaline hoppiness in the mouth. Very interesting: there is very little outstanding hop flavor with this beer other than a clean hop bitterness. Did they use Magnum? Aftertaste is a citrusy blast, primarily of grapefruit. Also a nice warming feeling from all the alcohol.

Mouthfeel 4.25: Very nice in the mouth. Smooth and with a level of carbonation that helps to balance out the big ABV.

Overall 4.25: Excellent beer. Great hop blending and very flavorful without being overpowering (regardless of its name). Amazingly light given its ABV, this is a delicious brew for a brief sessioning...aw, heck, just drink all four of them, but make it a Friday night. Recommended to all IPA fans.

I wouldn't call it pallet wrecker....more like pallet enhancer.

This is an aptley named beer! The nose has saome nice tropical notes to the hops with some spice and pine as well. On the palate, it has a nice malty start but transitions quickly to all bittering hops for a long, dry (astringent?) finish. Nice, but I wouldn't want more than one.

Deep slightly hazy orange amber brew with a sticky foam cap leaving sheets of lace. Pungent oranges, orange peels, marmalade and grapefruit along with a substantial caramelly malt nose. Biting bitterness right away, almost hot-spicy. Grapefruit pith. Oranges. Garlicky onion. Pine resin. The intense bitterness grudgingly yields just an inch to a creamy carmelly malt backbone which must exist in principle to warehouse all this hop intensity. Powerfully hoppy excellence.
