This is a beast of a beer. DIPAinsanity!

Pours a vibrant orange-golden color with thin foaming. The aroma is sticky sweet, with an intense resiny grapefruit oil character. And wait—is that a hint of apricot? Tangerines? Yum!

The bitterness decimates your palate, as promised, but its assertive in a way that makes you keep coming back for more. Are you in an abusive relationship with the hops? There is help out there! The flavor is intensely bitters, citrus (tangerines again), dried apricot and pine essence, with a dry sticky finish and just enough heft to coat your mouth and leave you eager for another sip. Wreck it!

A: Thick head diminishing to picture perfect lacing.

S: Hops.

T: Resiny hops

M: As a previous reviewer noted, this beer was not brewed to be balanced. This is spot on the mark for my expectations. A bit puckering, but enough alcohol to be nicely palatable.
A good brew.

More than anything, I'm concerned that this is what wakes up my palate these days.

Have had on tap in San Diego and in bottles on the east coast. IMHO, this is the best of its type - super hoppy IPA's. Lots of resin, pine, grapefruit. Some reviews say that it's unbalanced...not enough malts. Well, it's called Palate Wrecker; balance was not the objective. That being said, it is still extremely drinkable if you like the style. While it might not be so "balanced" in a traditional sense, it is delicious. This is a great beer, though not for everyone.

Poured chilled in standard ale glass

A: carbonation a bit weak; good floral head, with microbubbles; copper color; good lacing
S: wow--floral hop bomb aroma; a tad bit of orange
T: dominated by an insane amount of hops; overly flavorful/intense; this is cute as a gimmick, but the finishing hops are way too high, and it is not balanced against the malt; it is complex and flavorful, though
M: heavy mouthfeel

I won't get another one of these, appropriately named

The body is a slightly hazy orangish hue with a dash of tan in it. The head is off white, huge, and leaves behind a cascading lace.

The smell is piney with orange and grapefruit. I pick up some malty sweetness, but not much.

Hell yeah. It's nice a bitter but still packs some flavor. It's very resinious and the citrus that comes through has that pithey bitterness to it. The caramel malt has a pretty hefty presence and this almost took me across the line to a hoppy barleywine.

Mouthfeel has a somewhat heavy body for a DIPA, but it's broken up with adequate carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic DIPA. I can see how some would say it's too bitter but I felt it was still able to deliver on flavor through the excessive bitterness.
