Impulsively I drove down to Green Flash brewery on a Friday afternoon to procure the Silva Stout. This resulted in a four-pack in my fridge that night.

Color was black when poured into my Stone IRS glass, and smelled of bourbon and vanilla ensued. Tasted like the smell, plus a bit of burnt tasted. Not as thick as I thought it would be, perhaps I've served it a bit too cold.

Very drinkable for its heavy abv. Plus it's relatively affordable compared to the outrageous price we've seen lately and its limited release.

12oz bottle poured into Treehouse tulip, from the 2013 release. Thanks Tom (airfoil) for this want.

A- Pours a dark black, can see a tiny bit of brownish goo around the top of bottle, about a half finger of mocha brown head forms that recedes at an average rate to a thin layer leaving behind thin layered lacing. Decent carbonation for a stout.

S- Milk chocolate, vanilla, coconut, underlaying dark chocolates and a hint of bourbon. Nice balance and integration of bourbon, about average aroma strength.

T- Milk chocolate, coconut milk, vanilla, slight oak, fudge, finishes with a bit more oak, milk chocolate, and coconut. All the flavors integrate nicely, the bourbon barrel adds a very nice presence creating almost a coconut milk presence to it.

M- Smooth, a little bit on the thin side, decent carbonation, very drinkable.

O- This was a nice stout that definitely used the barrels it was aged in nicely creating a balanced coconut presence that fit with the base beer flavors nicely. If you like barrel-aged stouts this is definitely worth trying.

Bottle vintage 2010. Pours black with thin brown head. Strong bourbon aroma followed by notes of chocolate and dried fruit. No heat. Flavor is smooth bourbon with bitter sweet chocolate finish. Medium bodied with a nice cola texture. Nicely balanced stout.

Thanks to hamilton23 for sending me a couple of these. This has been a top want of mine for quite some time. From notes:

A- Pours a deep black with a thin mocha head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a few spots of lacing behind.

S- Freshly cooked fudge brownies, coconut, vanilla, bourbon, oak, hint of dark fruit and some roast. Fantastic aroma.

T- Bourbon is more upfront in the taste followed by oak, vanilla, dark chocolate chips and some caramel malt.

M- Medium carbonation and a slighlty thin body for the style. The abv is practically nowhere though.

O- A drinkable and well executed BA stout. The taste was slightly disappointing due to how amazing the aroma was. I will will most likely crack the other bottle soon as I don't see how further aging will enhance this beer.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip. Thanks to marisatheyounger for the awesome extra.

Appearance: Mahogany all the way through, a nice viscous look with a frothy tan head. The head mostly dissipates after a few seconds and leaves just a few spots of lace.

Smell: Smooth aroma with a nice full balance of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, a bit of vanilla, and a very subtle bourbon flavor.

Taste: This is very balanced, easy-drinking, and smooth. Roasted malt and a lightly sweet dark chocolate up front. It turns slightly bitter with a nice roast espresso and bit more bitter chocolate. The end has a touch of bourbon.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth and balanced, although it is a little weird that the body is on the lighter side for a 10% stout, and the carbonation has a little bit too much pop to it. This is splitting hairs, obviously.

Overall: A solid barrel aged imperial stout, I really appreciate the fact that I could drink a few of these without feeling bourbon overload.

A: Black. Opaque, even when held directly in front of the light. Nice brownish head, good retention with minimal lace.

S: Coffee, light bourbon, light booziness, very subtle smells. Vanilla as it warms.

T: Chocolate, burnt bitterness with a touch of sweetness on the tail. Tobacco. The bourbon characteristics are very faint, they really add to the beer instead of overpowering it. Definitely not a barrel bomb. Taste improved as temperature increased, all of the elements worked well together with no one in particular standing out or dominating the palate.

M: Thin. Not in a bad way, more in a distinct way that makes it stand out in the category. The 10.1% abv is barely detectable in the mouth.

O: Great beer to sip on and enjoy over an extended period. High marks. Very smooth, and a lot different than the "in your face" BA beers I'm used to. Was hoping to sit on this 12/13/12 bottle for a year, but thankfully I have another one in the closet to revisit in December.

Thanks to Thirstybird for sharing. 12oz. bottle split amongst two. Pours one shade shy of black with a luxurious two inch, creamy, mocha-colored head embedded with copious tiny pinpricks. Some spots of lacing were revealed during the tasting. Nose is sweet, dark malty goodness, molasses, chocolate and carob. Barrel aging is present and is well-rounded, but not excessive - just a trace of booze. Taste is consistent with nose, but not nearly as sweet as suggested by the aromas. It also comes off a bit ashy. Consistency is medium-light, but feels somewhat thin, with an even, subdued carbonation. An incredibly drinkable and well-balanced barrel aged beer. Twelve ounces is the perfect serving size too. A really excellent stout and well worth seeking out.

Huge thanks to my friend Bill for the hook on this!

Pours near black with a nice tan head. Nose has oak, whiskey, vanilla, cocoa, roasty malts and hops. Taste is well balanced. Barrel aging is well done, not out of control. Medium to full body is nicely carbonated. Ready to drink now, but should age well.

12-oz bottle released Jan 2013.  Thanks to Gottatickemall for the bottle.  Pours dark with tan head.  Not a lot of carbonation.  Smells of sweet dark fruit and chocolate.  Let it warm up a little.  Taste matches the smell.  A very balanced stout with no single dominating components.  Barrel characters are there but no alcohol heat like some other barrel aged stout.  So drinkable I think I can drink it all night and not get tired of it.  Kind of reminds me of the 2012 Abyss.

Half inch light mocha head on a black body. Cap and collar, small splotchy lacing.

Sweet bourbon notes in the nose.

Pretty damn smooth bal-ness. Toasted coconut hints from the oak. Light roastiness. Would guess about 11%abv.

Medium to medium-thin mouthfeel. Medium carbonation.

Good call from egrace84 on the similarities to CWBBS. Dig the coconut notes. Thanks kawilliams81.
