On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. This keg collar reads 5.3%. Poured into a snifter. Large, fluffy, white head, high retention on a clear, golden body with soapy lacing with some oily resin. Aroma has a light citrusy hop smell with some pilsner-like malt profile. Taste is light, refreshing, mildly hoppy, slightly sweet on the back end. Very tasty and easy to drink, the name is slightly misleading however, expected more hop abundance with the word "extra" in title of a Green Flash beer.

On tap at Raleigh Times in Raleigh

A - hazy orangish copper with a big, soft, dense, white head that has great retention

S - There is literally no nose; if anything a very faint, floral aroma

T - faint bread, bitter, herbal, rather hoppy

M - medium bodied, crisp

This is a very easy to drink beer but it's rather one dimensional. It comes across a bit unbalanced and the hop character seems a bit unpredictable. I'll pass in the future.

M - Smooth, light-medium bodied, good carbonation. Slightly dry.

O - An enjoyable English pale ale. High drinkability with good flavor.

This beer pours out as a copper color with an inch of head that give off a pretty good lacing. The smell is a little hoppy with some malts on the nose. The taste has a slight medicine flavor, a bitter hop bite finish. The mouthfeel is prickly on the tongue and leaves your mouth dry. It was an ok brew, nothing too crazy here.

On-tap at Callahan's, San Diego.

Pours a hazy light copper color with a good white head. Light aroma and flavor, with hop spice, some florals, and a bit of malt. Lots of carbonation here, and the beer is pretty light-bodied. The beer's flavor is really too light, and it just seems sort of weak for what it is supposed to be. Nevertheless, it is a pretty easy-to-drink beer; I just don't think I'll be getting more than one.

Purchased single bottle at 6 pack shop. Poured into a glass, left some suds on the side of the glass. A decent fairly easy to drink pale ale, with a moderate amount of hoppy flavor. Very little carbonation makes the brew taste almost flat. It paired well with some hot chicken wings so it was not totally disappointing.

Very solid beer. I had a chance to try one at Mad Mex the other day. It doesn't have an overpowering taste but packs in enough hops to make it a great IPA.

It also has a great smell too it, it combines nicely with the taste as they work well together. A must try.

A clear golden amber color with a big off-white head and lots of fluffy lace. The aroma is mild wheat malt and pine hops, mild but enticing. The flavor is a fair facsimile of the smell, smooth, medium body, fair carbonation, accent on a grassy malt with just a delicate touch of hop bitterness. Not too much sweetness but enough to make this pretty drinkable. Not bad just not overwhelming. Definitely worth a try and another positive from Green Flash!

Tried on June 21, 2008. 12 oz

This well carbonated golden orange beer has a large yellow head and subtle aroma. Smells of caramel and sweet grass. Flavors are refreshing and well balanced. Hits the tongue in all the right places - starts sweet with decent hopbite and finishes with citrus zing. Medium bodied and hops are spot-on. Very pleasant to drink. Would certainly have another.

As a San Diego resident, I want my local beers to succeed. But, I can not recommend this particular beer. Pours weak clear gold with a small white head. Weak hops and water aroma. Unsubstantial taste, bitter aftertaste. I'll stick to AleSmith Extra Pale from now on

* I foud out this was before Tom Nickel started helping these guys, so I will try this again.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a WEEN pint glass.

Pours a pale yellow/straw color with a frothy & thick white 1 finger deep head.

Smells of fresh squeezed citrus, lemon, line tropical, piney, bisquity malt presence as well.

Faint sweet maltiness, piney & citric hop bitterness, clean finish. Refreshing.

Medium, smooth, crisp, clean, dry finish.

A fine sessionable pale. There are athers I enjoy more in this style, but this is fine example.

I got this bottle in a trade with getkrunkhoe.
Thanks Carlos!

This pours a slightly hazy medium gold with a 2 finger head of foam.

The smell is pretty big with an ample dose of citrus hops, mainly grapefruit, and a light nose of malt that comes across as slightly sweet.

The taste has the bitter grapefruit there with some sweet malt that's more noticeable when you hold the beer in your mouth or swish it. Just taking sips, it's more of a bready malt character.

Medium mouthfeel here with a fairly light amount of carbonation. Head retention is good as is the lacing.

Pretty solid Pale Ale and it is crisp so the Extra is warranted here, me thinks.

This poured a slightly hazy pale gold with white head. It smelled like nutty malt and butterscotch, with tart floral hops. It tasted like bitter lemon and floral hops, balanced with nutty malt and butterscotch. It was slightly thick with moderate carbonation, and had a bitter aftertaste. Overall the flavors and texture of this beer didn't mesh well together, although it was very clean. I could still drink it, but Green Flash's IPA is much better.

A-Golden yellow/amber with a medium white head that retained nicely and left decent lacing.

S-Sharp citrus and a wafting of pine. Nothing overpowering but certainly present.

T-Bright citrus hops with an underlying floral quality. Well supported by biscuity malt.

M-Medium-light body with a nice sharp crispness. Light, lingering bitterness.

D-This is a sit back and down a six pack kinda brew. Great for having "lying around" to enjoy while watching football or sharing with friends...when you dont want to break out "the good stuff". Solid, well flavoured and enjoyable, what more could you want from an APA?

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a pale yellow with a hint of amber with a small white head, for a hoppier beer needs more lacing.

S: Typical Cascade hop aroma which is always inviting, very floral, smells just like a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

T: Light Cascade floral, piney bitterness starts the beer with a definite bite. Chinnok grapefruit provides a lot more hop body as the beer continues to evolve. Finish is light, dry and bready.

M: I found the mouthfeel a little thin, but overall not bad, could use some more carbonation and bit more crispness, medium-bodied overall.

D: A quite good APA from Green Flash, it is very similar to SNPA, but I think the flavour is better on the whole. Another reason why Green Flash is arguably my favourite SoCal brewery.

A: Poured a pale orange wit a nice 1 finger foamy, eggshell white head that retained beautifully leaving a spongy film lacing. Visible carbonation was light.

S: bright oranges and citrus that was very sharp and pronounced in nature. Smelled like old time country lemonade, aromatic and very pleasant.

T: The flavor was bright citrus and oranges, with some crisp pale malts. Some fresh lemony notes and a light flowery hopping are found on the finish. Crisp, very refreshing and a very good example.

M: light with some dried citrus hopping on the fade. Soft carbonation provides a nice mouthful.

D: Great drinkability by style 6 pack worthy at the least. A refreshing example and very good one at that.

A: Hazy dark golden straw with two fingers of white head and nice lacing.

S: Hints of caramel and light malts and nice hit of hops afterwards.

T: Nice pine and earthand a touch of citrus backed up by some nice malts.

M: Creamy, crisp, and clean.

D: This is very drinkable though perhaps thinner than most APA's. This is something I would love to try on cask.

12 oz. Bottle. From the beer of the month club.

Pours a clear light pale color with a fluffy white head with sticky lacing.
The nose has notes of citrus and malt.

The flavor has nice citrus notes with a grainy malt balanced. Not as good as their West Coast IPA, but still good.

It's a well made beer.

Green Flash- Extra Pale Ale

A- Light yellowish orange, clear, lotsa bubbles, and a big thick sticky head. Good messy lacing.
S- Light touch of carmel malt and hoppy grapefruit rind.
T- Sweet honey malt with a light sweetened grapefruit rind hop finish.
M- Again sweet, with a light bitter hop bite in the end.

Overall- Actually quite good on a 95 degree day! Subdued flavors make this almost a chugger.

A: Pours a hazy and dirty straw color with a decent sized off-white bubbly head that has decent retention and leaves nice lace patterns on the glass.

S: Not much going on here but a bit of piney hops and sweet, bready malts.

T: Just like the nose. Somewhat sweet up front but rather bland, dry and bitter the rest of the way. Really wasn't impressed here.

M: About medium bodied with good carbonation.

D: Maybe I came into this one with heightened expectations given some of Green Flash's other brews. Overall it was bland. There are so many tastier brews out there that I don't see myself drinking a lot of these. But it's drinkable.

Green Flash let me down on this one. Poured a deep straw color. Small head. Aroma is malty. A medium bodied pale ale. Malty and hoppy. Notes of mangos, apricots and peaches. Hops are piney and grapefruity. There just seemed to be an off taste in this pale, perhaps skunked a little bit but something was off on the flavor for a West Coast XPA. Mouthfeel is not so good and off balanced. Finish is clean malty, hoppy and just not good and slightly bitter.

Poured into a pint glass yielding a mostly clear golden color and a thin head with decent lacing all the way through.

Distinctive medium hop floral smell with hints of orange citrus.

Taste and mouthfeel are very good. Clean and crisp flavor with initially elevated carbonation that tapers away through the glass. Finishes with a light malts.

Easy drinking and very refreshing medium bodied ale.

This beer beautifully balances crisp, refreshing drinkability with a lot of flavour, body, complexity, and both malt and hops character.

Light amber, it has with a medium, dense, off-white head that lasts shrinks very slowly and leaves some good lace.

The aroma is light but extremely enticing with honey, citrus, pine, and lightly toasted grain.

The taste has wonderful sweet-bitter balance, toffee, grain, honey, grapefruit and lemon, all playing together from start to finish. The finish is very long, leaving an aromatic, complex aftertaste. The feel is smooth but lightly crisp at the end.

Pours a gold color with good clarity. Creamy surface to the foam, and some little bits of lace. Grassy aroma with a prominent malt character that beats out the hops. Taste has the mild grassy hop bitterness too, but pale malt flavors are the main focus. Light honey sweetness is chased by a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Good level of carbonation and an overall easy drinker. Summertime session ale that competes directly with SNPA.
