Aroma - Floral, fruity, cedar, caramel malt, 20th generation pitch of American ale yeast.

Taste - basic pale/amber ale malt grist with light floral/fruity/citrus hops upfront. Interesting spicy cedar and mineral finish.

Overall - an easy drinking pale ale made more controversial with the addition of cedar. I liked the cedar and didn't think it was too much. It lingers nicely in the finish. Good beer.

Dark evening, pale beer. Let's open the 22 ounce bottle of Cedar Plank. On to the beer:

it look like a proper pour as it rests in my Samuel Smith branded pint glass. Two fingers of somewhat creamy white head hold their retention with a long time lapse needed before it slowly cracks down. Underneath that is a copper toned orange body which is translucent with visible bubbles running to the top. This pale ale has a strong grassy aroma. Grassy, "dank", lemongrass, a wee note of bitter citrus.

Cedar Plank gravities towards the hoppy side of a pale ale. Nevertheless, hops are malt are detectable when I first taste it; toffee crisp with a fusion of passionfruit sweetness and bittersweet grapefruit. The hops bring a perfumy tea-like character to the show. Mango and a swift shot of fruity esters add another layer of flavor to peel. The beer is not very bitter, it's medium bodied, and despite being packed with flavor, is easy to drink.

Cedar Plank showcases hops and more hops. If that's what you're craving, this is your beach.

Fruity, tropical aroma, mango and citrus, with grapefruit and lemon.

Flavor is resiny at the base, with fruity hops providing complexity and contrast. It's a little more woody and dry than I'd prefer.

Poured into a balloon glass.

Look: A slightly hazy burnt orange body sits under a cream colored head. Light watery lacing -- the head recedes to a chunky film.

Aroma: Lots of wood -- cedar -- spices, piny hops.

Taste: Very dry and woody up front. Cedar, some faint citrus and pine.

Mouthfeel: Dry, medium bodied.

Overall: Exactly how I expected this beer to be. Very dry, woody.
