Appearance: I don't normally associate Green Flash with either sours or waxed caps and this has to be one of the toughest wax jobs to remove I have ever encountered - way too thick; after removing the wax, the cap popped off silently but there was still a reasonable amount of carbonation that produced a bit of a modest tan head on top of the tawny brown liquid; the retention was not great but there was a viscous dotting of lace

Smell: Hints of Bourbon and vanilla are in the mix, but the lactic dark cherry tones make up most of the aroma; hints of chocolate, too

Taste: The sweeter caramel, chocolate and dark cherry tones arrive, up front, the combination producing a flavor reminiscent of cola; acetic tartness builds through the middle and subtle hints of Bourbon, oak and vanilla develop in the finish; lactic sourness in the finish, as well

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; somewhat puckery

Overall: An interesting take on the Flanders Red style but I am not sure that Bourbon barrel treatment really works with the style; glad I tried it, though, as I was curious

Thanks, danwho, for the opportunity

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Brownish red. Small cream-colored collar.

Smell - Acetic and oaky. Vanilla. Caramel. I don't get much bourbon directly, but the vanilla and oak play nicely with the acidity.

Taste - Moderate acetic sourness. Caramel malts. Bourbon is much more prominent here, along with a nice vanilla and malty flavor lingering in the back.

Mouthfeel - I seldom say something isn't sour enough, but I think this could use a bit more. Well carbonated.

Overall - Smells great, but the flavors are a little tame.
