A: Poured from the growler into a Sam Smith's nonic-style pint glass. Body is black with ruby/mahogany edges when backlit and a small greyish head.
S: Earthy, roasty malt and citrusy, piney hops.
T: Roasted barley malt is followed by nice bitter pine and pine needles. Lingering pine bitterness.
M: Medium in heft, modest carbonation - slightly slick in feel.
O: Real good stuff; I like an American Black Ale like this, with nice roasty notes and then big time hop bitterness. For perfection, it could use more chocolatey malty notes, but overall this is good stuff.

22oz bottle, Best By 7/21/14, so we're getting close, and I'm wishing I had bought and drank this sooner...
L - tall, frothy tan head sits atop a cola-like, nearly black ale. Excellent head retention and sticky lacing
S - dank pine and citric hops, roasted malt, faint chocolate
T - black and bitter with roasted barley, baker's chocolate, pine, grapefruit rind, earth, caramel
F - resinous and drying, sticky, fuller body, nice carbonation
O - nice black IPA. I'd try it again if I could get it on tap or get a fresher bottle. Regardless, it's still really solid.
