On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Light beige head, good retention on a black body. Sticky, soapy lacing. Aroma dominated by piney, resinous hops, some faint roast flavor in the back but clearly way hopped. Taste follows suit with strong bitterness, grassy, dominating. Some coffee and some roasted malt flavors but really hop showcase. This has Green Flash written all over it and its awesome.

Poured from a 22oz bottle with a best by date 7/21/14; into a tulip.
Appearance - pours incredibly black, but against the light shows a hint of deep crimson. Huge, foamy mocha head that leaves sticky and creamy lacing!
Smell - an excellent blend of sweet malts and citrus hops!
Taste - full of flavors, primarily gourmet coffee, grapefruit and mango!
Feel - complex, aggressive, flavorful, just fantastic! Bitter hops, dark coffee, medium body.
Overall - love the style, so I'm not surprised that I like this so much, but This was better than expected!

On draft at City Beer Store, San Francisco.
Ruby black with steady tan film.
Ash, greasy orange rind, and blackberry nose.
Cocoa nibs, char and black currant then citrus rind, lemon balm, herb and mint hops.
Lemon zest finish and long roasty bitterness.
Medium, oily, clingy.
Deep and serious BIPA. Makes 21A Back in Black – which is not a bad beer – drink like Grape Fanta. Nuanced and technically superior.

Pours a deep black, stout like in color. One finger cappuccino colored head that leaves some great lacing.
The piney, roasted, slightly peppery notes come through fairly balanced in the nose. That same pine hop bite with some peppery herbal notes blend with the roasted grains and slight earthy character. The only detracting quality I can think of might be a slight medicinal note on the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated and sharp on the tongue. Has a touch of the hop sticky quality.
Overall this is one of my favorite black ipa's. Roasted grains and a sharp hop bitterness really lends itself nicely.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, best by 7/21/14. Pours a slick almost black, with a light tan sticky two inch head, that leaves webs of lace.
Smell is coffee, toffee, chocolate, earthy hops, pine, and some hints of citrus.
Taste starts with some nice expresso toffee flavors and finishes with a huge burst of citrus grapefruit that really lingers on the palate awhile.
Body is medium, plenty of life, a little dry, and easy drinking.
Overall I love it. What I would expect from one of my favorite brewers of hoppy goodness.

22oz to a snifter, had this on tap last year, finally reviewing it. Enjoy by 7/21
Pours black with two fingers of eggshell white foam. No transparency when held to the window, thick and black all the way through. Mild carbonation from the sides, good lacing and retention. Not much else you could ask for
Could smell the hops as soon as I cracked the cap. Upfront hop bomb, very floral hops with notes of pine and citrus. Strong chocolate malts with notes of vanilla and a hint of coffee, all tied together with a splash of alcohol. One of the best smelling bipas I've had to date
Taste falls a bit short of the aroma but still delivers. Hops translate well, up front very floral, shifting to some earthy pine and finishing with some citrus. Strong chocolate malts, a bit of coffee and none of that glorious vanilla from the nose. Finishes with a bit of booze
Feel is thick and creamy, medium bitterness with a dry finish. Alcohol concealed well, easy to drink
Overall one of the more solid cda's I've had. Glad to finally do a proper review finally, glad to see this gem in a bottle
