Poured from a 12oz bottle into a stemmed tulip glass.
Best Before: 2014/02/28; Poured: 2013/10/17
A: Hazy copper in color pouring to 1-2 fingers of off-white head that is heavy, creamy and very persistent, settles to a sudsy collar and leaves lots of lacing.
S: Lots of sweet malts and a big juicy hop nose, pineapple and citrus, some grassiness, a bit of spiciness.
T: Heavy malt flavor, syrupy and rich; even with a massive bittering hop profile necessary to balance the grains needed to achieve 10%, this beer is still a malt forward IPA (which I guess is to be expected for a TIPA). Some tropical fruits and a bit of pithy citrus. The New Zealand hops (Nelson Sauvin?) really come through and leave a pronounced grassy almost chardonnay flavor.
M: Medium high body and medium low carbonation; heavy, syrup, cloying.
O: Taste is obviously subjective, but the Nelson Sauvin hops are not my favorite. Having said that, this is a big delicious IPA with a massive grain bill and the IBU’s to match.
