I wanted to stay on my sugar high from Christmas cookies, but The Dark One wasn't the one to keep me up there. More malty bittersweet than I wanted, although probably consistent with style. I'd prefer a bit more lactose sugar.
Bought two12 ounce cans from Beer Drop and probably will give the second can to my nephew in exchange for work.
As for my micro-review of High Hops... With 30 years of roots as a garden nursery, extensive hop farm and 10 years as a brewery and now a distillery of at least five spirits, this family business in Front Range Paradise can say a lot for itself. But for a 10 year old brewery, they probably should have achieved more; maybe more focus will help.

ABV: 6.5%
Poured into a DFH glass a pretty nice dark brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus tan head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, some roastyness, chocolate/toffee, vanilla. The taste is nice, malty, roasty, with some chocolate/toffee, and vanilla. Medium body, ABV is hidden nicely, with a slight bitter/dry finish. Overall, a tasty brew.

L: Pours a dark black color with a very creamy large rocky white head with a couple fingers of lacing.
S: Roasted malt and powdery milk chocolate, mixed with a slight bit of vanilla, and a sweet milk.
T: Roasted dark malt, milk chocolate, a sweetness from the milk, a note of vanilla. Very nice taste.
F: Medium body, carbonation is a little higher than I would expect.
O: Not groundbreaking but still a very nice milk stout.

Surprisingly awesome. Most craft-brewed "milk stouts" seem to be forgettable and under-flavored. This however is rich and full of coffee, roasted malt, powdery-chocolate, and roast flavor. It is thick but not sweet (which is nice), and has nice body. I would prefer less carbonation, but I won't subtract points because I think the brewers intended this to be exactly what it is, and my personal preference for low carbonation beer is just that: A personal preference. Well done High Hops, this is my first of your beers and hopefully won't be my last. I am impressed overall. This is one of the best new (to me) Colorado beers I have tried this year.

Poured into my chalice at 2 fingers of ultra creamy head (which is good for this cup), a dark mocha brown fading into black, 100% opacity, almost smokey looking.
Lots of lovely coffee and oats on the aroma, with a dusting of chocolate and a touch of licorice. Balanced is the key word here.
Taste is absolutely delicious. Milky, silky chocolate mixes with lactose and mousse, with an oat-y body and a day-old coffee finish. It begs for more sips.
Feel is dead on, too. Creamy and swirly, with a proper level of mild carbonation and a roasted finish.
Overall, this is beyond awesome. I will be visiting this beer again, and again, and again.....
