A 500ml bottle with a BB of May 2011. The label features an image of St. George slaying a dragon - I'm guessing this beer is created for St. Georges day. Wadworth's website states that it is available in March and April.
Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A reddish-amber colour with slight haze and good carbonation. Yields a large head of white foam with a creamy texture; this lasts for a couple of minutes before subsiding. Aroma of malt with hints of grain and biscuits, as well as a background solvent note.
Tastes of faintly sweet malt with a dry bitter finish. Notes of grain and biscuits. The bitterness is accompanied by unpleasant hints of stewed leaves and a solvent note. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with considerable astringency. Leaves an acrid bitter aftertaste.
Uninspired, with an unpleasant character. The malt flavour is dull and the bitterness is harsh, with off-notes that spoil the flavour. I don't know if it's supposed to be like this or if the bottle is just old, but I can't recommend it. Spend your money on something else.

Wadworth and Company Ltd. "St. George"
on tap @ Thomas Rigby's, Liverpool, UK on 29 March 2015
Notes: Clear deep amber with dark orange accents beneath a dense head of off-white foam. Very good head retention and lacing. The aroma reveals a caramelish malt accented by apples, pears and berries as well as a bit of leafy hops and some very light sulphur and the suggestion of butter, but not actual butter if that makes sense (if it's diacetyl it's at a very low level). The same fruitiness returns in the flavor along with a bit of nuttiness mixed in with the caramel, and an edge of bitter peanut skins. Grassy and mildly leafy hops round it out. It's medium leaning towards medium-light in body with a mild caress of the tongue. A firm bitterness anchors and balanced it, and it finishes dry, lingering mildly with residual leafy hops.

bottled and picked up from discount supermarket B&Ms
Orange gold with short lived head. Heavy caramel note, butterscotch, some sharp tinny notes, thinnish malty brew. Not over keen.

500ml bottle (BBD Jul 2013) drank on St George's Day 2013. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home.
Good amber body with a head that was both creamy in texture and colour.
The nose was caramel sweet and so was the taste, it did however have a drier semi-hop finish to it.
Body-depth was average; would have liked a bit more umph to be honest.
I liked it: my sweet tooth is a sucker for caramel induced malty brews!
