500ml bottle

Pours with an amber body, slightly foamy head which soon dissapates, slight lacing

Smell, slight malty body, some hop profile

Taste, dry and malty, some hop bitterness

A pretty good ale, nice and flavourful, i'd take a few english ales over this but still, not bad, i'd like to try it on cask

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2013. Purchased a while back from a B&M store. This is a classic ale that I've enjoyed in the past.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A coppery-amber colour with light carbonation and floating sediment. Forms a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a thin surface layer. Aroma of caramel malt with hints of toffee, fruity ale yeast, faint raisins, stewed hops and a whiff of cardboard or sherry in the background. Slightly sweet.

Tastes of caramel malt with a mild fruitiness and a dry finish. Notes of fruity ale yeast, faint toffee, earthiness, stewed hops and hints of wet cardboard. A faint harshness in the background, followed by a mild, dry bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with light carbonation and decent body. Slightly astringent, with an aftertaste of fruity caramel malt and harsh stewed leaves.

OK, but nothing spectacular. A fairly humdrum malty flavour with mild bittering hops and little hop aroma to be found. Cardboard notes suggest that it might be a tad old. Decent body. Rather average, although I suspect it would be better on cask. Worth sampling, but don't go out of your way.

This arrived with a great warm brown color. The head was modest and it left some pretty plain lace.

The smell is of nothing but malts. The taste is nice, bringing a good balance of grains and malts. Hops are a little hard to find. The mouthfeel was very full and smooth.

Pours light with a bit of coco colour in body, off-white firm head. A bit floral, understated British hops. An understated pale, non-offsensive and boring. Medium to lighter mouthfeel. Fuggle and Goldings hops.Malty with sugar. Well carbonated. Fair.

Can: Poured a dark amber color ale with small foamy head with minimal retention and some fine lacing. Aroma of dry English malt is present but lacking in floral or fruity aspects. Taste of dry malt is interesting but the missing floral/fruity layer makes it a bit boring and the absence of any notable hops presence also make this as an average offering.

Pours a nut brown colour with good head retention and some lacing. Nothing amazing on the nose, sweet, biscuits, and a slight amount of hops. The taste is sweet and malty with some hoppy citrus like tones. I cant see myself drinking this all the time but it is pretty quaffable.

Hand-pulled pint in The Euston Way (a plastic pub) in Telford on 17 Nov 2012 as I wait for my transport to a beer festival.

Dark gold/old gold in colour with a good covering of off-white foam as a head: lacing followed the beer down the UK sleeve it was poured into.

Slight aroma of fruitiness and malt semi-sweetness, but nothing strong.

The taste was as the nose: malty and fruity.

I used to love this before I started to stretch my taste buds and bounderies: still a good example of a UK Best Bitter but it could be so much more with a little more care and alcohol content.

This ale is not seen too much around london, but the venerable Lord Moon Of The Mall pub comes through again. This ale is a copper color and has a thinnish head. Lacing was not as thick or lasting as most other cask ales I've indulged in. Slight aroma that's malt dominated. Taste profile is very fruity with a bit of malt. More bitter than most cask beers. I liked it more than the score might indicate, but then I can't remember a cask ale I didn't like. Worth a try.

While visiting friends in England, of course we had to try some real ales from hand pump.
6X has become one of Wadworth's flagship brands, and is available every time you turn around. Served a proper pour, pint glass, cellar temperature.
Clear golden brown color, with a thin head that left thin lace sheets. Aromas of earthy malt and slightly fruity hops. Tastes clean and crisp, lots of flavor but without one element coming through too much. Not as full bodied as I was expecting. Slight balancing hop bitterness to finish. Dry, slightly herbal finish. A decent sessional English Pale Ale.

A - Hazy red colour with lots of head and no visible carbonation.
S - Smells quite roasty and malty, sweet, boozy and fruity.
T - Sweet and malty, lots of caramel and molasses flavours. Hints of maple, fruits, peaches, apricots. No aftertaste and quite light in taste. Very English tasting.
M - Quite creamy and nicely thick and slightly coating.
D - Pretty good, but a little heavy for a long session.

Pours a dull copper colour. Good clarity. Decent off-white head that lasted a few minutes. Some lace.
Smell has a mild malty sweetness and the hops are slightly earthy and floral. Some fruitiness and graininess.
Taste is mild. Fruity character is more dominant. Hops are fairly mild. Only the slightest of lingering hop bitterness.
Somewhat watery mouthfeel. The carbonation is completely propping it up.
Its an OK beer but there are others in the style I'd rather drink.

First had: on gravity cask at Farmers' Cabinet, Philly, PA

Pours a golden brown, slightly hazy, with a frothy white head. Not much in the aroma...nutty, toasty, some funk. Taste is grassy and bready up front, some light caramel; a load of farmhouse funk comes in afterward, finishing off with lots of hop bitterness and a decent drying effect. Light mouthfeel, a little stale and metallic, but pretty decent overall.

After reading some other reviews, I wonder if this was a bad cask, but whatever...I just go with what I had.

Appearance: hazelnut brown, good clarity, spongey layer of light tan foam, great head retetnion, lace

Aroma: sweetly malty and nutty, hint of fruity hops

Flavor: up-front roasty acidity, not much sweetness; roasted hazelnuts, very slight hop flavor and bitterness; finishes dryish with a lingering vegetal bitter taste and acidity

Mouthfeel: medium-full body, mild carbonation, somewhat minerally

Other comments: Smells a lot sweeter than it tastes. It's an OK beer.
