On cask at the Belfast Beer Festival, 2012

Chocolate gone ruby in light with tan froth.
Cocoa, leaf and humus on the nose.
Soil, cherry stone, and carob up front with tobacco leaf hops.
Vinous grape finish and clean linger. Medium, chewy, soft.

Old ale or strong mild? Brewery calls it the latter, though there are some deeper notes. Lots of flavor which, at this gravity, is a bit easier. Malt forward, with a touch of molasses and a nice bit of chew. (458 characters)

Served cold from 500ml bottle into pint mug.

L) Very dark brown with a yellow tinge, opaque, thin white bubbly film and little carbonation evident.

S) Lightly roasted chocolate malt. I've probably chilled this one too much.

T) Slightly sourish taste, with lightly roasted malt. Very faint bitterness, from roasting malt, not from hops.

F) Nice active carbonation and lightish mouth feel. No harsh bitterness.

O) This doesn't claim to be a stout on the bottle, but I would class it as a light stout or porter. Had it both on cask at the brewery tap in Leeds and from the bottle, and have not been that impressed either time. Its not horrible, its just lightweight. (675 characters)
