12oz bottle poured to tumbler
Appearance: Dark gold with a light haze. 1 finger off white head drops to a light lace.
Aroma: Bold yeast notes you want from a California Common, stronger malt notes than typical for the style, caramel hint in the malt.
Flavor is spot on with the aroma: sweet yeasty tang, slightly caramelized malts, nice bitterness to balance.
Mouthfeel: thick for a 5%er, a bit lacking in carbonation
Overall: A well mastered effort in the California Common Ale style, stands out from the standards with rich color, fantastic aroma and flavor. Feels like a much bigger beer, malt and yeast notes being passed from desk to desk through out class. A bit more of everything, other than abv, then one expects from the style... no shrinking violets on the Spring Training ballfield. Bold without being cloying. A few more bubbles would be nice.
