vibe: 4.5 | quality: 5 | service: 4 | selection: 4 | food: 4.5

My wife and I recently dined here. It's a very small quite place. Good for date night, not for hanging out with your buddies.

More of a foodie type place that happens to have a few solid taps (4 or 5 I think).

The beer was very good and included Hardywood which happens to be right up the street. Also, good wines and interesting cocktails.

The food was a bit mixed. The small plates were awesome. I also had a braised rabbit entre that was out of this world. However, my wife ordered the tuna and while the flavor was very good (horseradish crusted) it was really overcooked. I've marked down the service and food a bit because the server never checked on us and then when took our plates, my wife had to mention how overcooked the tuna was (in a nice way). We got a deer in the headlights type of look.

If you're a new place that prides itself on its food, you would think the server would immediate check on you, and then address any issues. I would have ordered at least one more beer but she never showed up. It was really strange given there are only about 10-15 tables in the whole place.

I'd be willing to try it again but my wife likes Beliverdre at Broad much better. (1,182 characters)

A: Owners are great people, knowledgeable and personable. uniquely decorated, small, and quaint.

Q: Food is great, and the craft beer menu is well selected. Local brewery Hardywood on tap. Stone, Founders, a variety of Belgian Trappist styles. Bourbon list is killer (Eagle Rare, Van Winkle, Black Maple Hills, Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig, and more).

S: Excellent. Not a huge staff, owners are always in house and they are good people.

S: Selection is well constructed. Not a huge list, but it has good variety.

F: Very good, unique takes on classic foods.

V: worth every penny. (587 characters)

A: Very quaint place. Awesome atmosphere, very cool crowd. Nice place to be.

Q: Beer was good!

S: We were served by one of the owners, so the service was exceptional. The husband/wife owners pick the beer and they had fresh Founder's Breakfast Stout on draft and several craft bottles, like Saison Dupont and Stone Smoked Porter. All in all, 6 taps of decent stuff and 20 craft brews total.

F: Food wasn't worth the price. The duck was good but not worth $23 for the portion. The fried Gnocchi appetizer was horrid.

V: Value is in an awesome place to grab good beer in a cool place right by the fan and VCU. (612 characters)
