From a 12 oz can into a tulip.

A-The brew is light, light yellowish gold in color, and clear. There are a few streams of lazy carbonation visible and a fat one-finger head of white foam. Retention is moderate and there is a bit of lace left behind.

S-The smell is inviting and intense, with a good dose of peppery, rye spice up front. There is a bit of chalk and soap underneath and the whole package is bitter and sharp, but not too leafy or straw-flavored. I'm looking forward to this.

T-The taste is more subdued, but similar in flavor. The peppery rye is turned down, but still gives a sharp bite up front. The malts are pale, dry, and chalky. There is a bit of lemongrass and a faint sweetness on the mid-palate that tones down the bitterness.

M-The feel is pretty creamy and soft up front (for the style), but the soft carbonation subsides and the finish is more wet feeling.

O-This is my first beer from Telluride Brewing and I am impressed. The smell, in particular, fits my idea of what a good rye pale ale should smell like; it is sharp and spicy, but not over-the-top bitter or astringent. The taste doesn't quite have the same intensity, but for a 5.5% brew, this packs a decent bit of flavor.

A: Golden, light orange color. Thin one finger head that disappears pretty quickly. Carbonation is minimal.

S: Predominantly lemon and orange as well as zest, and grassy aromas. A little black pepper from the rye.

T: Lemon citrus and some grapefruit, then a sweet malt backbone. Finishes with some peppery spice, tartness like from a lemon or orange peel and grass.

M: Overall light in body, fairly creamy, and some mild bitterness.

O: A refreshing beer, great for a post-hike cool down. Earthiness, spice, and lighter body paris great with Indian food!

Aroma: Sweet slightly papery citrus aroma. Hints of pineapple and mango. No DMS, some diacetyl.

Appearance: Light yellow with golden highlights. Very little head with large soapy bubbles.

Taste: Very soapy flavor with a neutral bitterness. Some pilsner malt like bready flavors. Not much complexity in the flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium light body. Medium carbonation. The bitterness lingers into the finish for several seconds.

Overall: A drinkable but easily forgettable pale whose bitterness borders on IPA. The flavors is lacking any complexity or any of the citrus that is pleasurable in the aroma.

Plenty of foam in the tall lager glass. Color is hazed golden amber. Piney scent only hints at things to come.

Intensely grapefruity taste. In fact, it's silly with grapefruit. It's hard to even think of another flavor descriptor. But there is some browned toast to hint at malt flavors. there's a touch of sweetness, maybe a hint of mango, and then it's back to the grapefruit juice. Aftertaste is grapefruit peel with an escalating bitterness to the, ah, bitter end.

After I wrote my notes I looked at the description again-- "Rye? rye?" That was a surprise, and contributes more to the total weirdness of this stuff. It's not like any rye brew I ever tasted, but somehow that resiny grainy flavor of rye accentuates the hops they used. Brewery says they use five hops in this, so it's hard to place the blame.

From the 12 oz can purchased at Wilbur's Total Beverage in Fort Collins.

12 oz can served cold into a pint glass.

Bridal Veil is a pale golden yellow color with a slight haze. Great lacing left behind.

Aroma is fresh and hoppy with pleasant citrus tones.

Flavor could also be described the same way but with added peppery spice from the rye malts.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. Good balance for an IPA.

Overall a very enjoyable rye IPA.
