I picked up this bottle on my journey to Boston recently. I have not seen it in Philly before.

No freshness date on the bottle. I poured it into my snifter beer glass, which according to the label is the way "to get maximum aroma and flavor."

The beer pours a rich copper color with an attractive, cream-colored head. Hazy body, and no lacing on the glass. Appears fairly dark for the style, but then again, what isn't acceptable in the world of IIPA's?

The aroma is where this beer loses it for me. Unless they are using an aroma hop which I am totally unfamiliar with (completely possible...), then I think that are either using the wrong hops for the job or they just don't understand what someone is looking for in a Double IPA. Sweet nose, with some hints of plum, it smells heavily dominated by the malts and alcohol.

The taste is obviously no better. You get a sweet caramel flavor, followed my honeyish notes and then a lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. No real bitterness up front, and the bitterness on the back end isn't the most pleasant either. This is "Double" for sure, but no IPA....

As for the carbonation level and the mouthfeel, I think this is excellent. The beer has a soft, almost creamy texture and there really isn't much wrong with it.

I do not dislike this beer, but I do take issue with the labeling of it as a Double IPA. Check your facts first! The Double IPA should have a considerable hop presence, not a diminished one. Even the label states "Ass Kisser Double IPA is a rich malty ale that has warm caramel notes that open up as it warms up to your glass." Call it something else! Get a better score...

Pours golden brown with a finger head. Boozy smell with not much character. Wheaty to the tongue but finishes boozy. I bought it because of the name to be honest. It wasn't bad but it didn't blow my mind. Overall, It's an average IPA. I would buy it again but only if I was left with few options.

The back-end bitterness is very mild with most of the hops coming from late additions, as far as I can detect. It seems weak and underpowered for a DIPA. The flavor is nice and mild with no booze detected, pleasant caramel and biscuity flavors being countered by citrus and fruit hops. I'd drink it again because it wasn't a bad beer by any means, it was just not what I've come to expect from a DIPA
