Trying the Ass Kisser Porter this Xmas Eve...it is a full bodied porter at 8% abv. The peer pours a dark almost completely opaque. A this ecru head forms at the top with minimal if any lacing. The smell smoke with light roast. The taste earth and peat mixed with smoke. The mouthfeel as mentioned is full bodied with decent carbontation. This isnt too bad of a porter.

My first beer from this left coast brewery.Poured a deep dark brown with some lighter brown highlights,a creamy one finger beige head atop.Aromas are really light, subdued smoke and chocolate come out but that's about it.Flavors of light smoke and a real defined woodiness, minor brown sugar-like sweetness comes thru in the finish.Eh it's ok but it's not overly complex,I will say the alcohol is held in check pretty well.

22oz brown bomber with no freshness date.

LOOK: Dark brown, ruby highlights, beautiful lacing

SMELL: Smoke, faintly cloying, mild roasty character, coffee, carob, wild berries

TASTE: Very smooth, medium bodied, mild smokiness throughout, roasty, slightly astringent, warming, fruity, yeasty

Not bad, a bit messy with the yeast and fruitiness. A bit more smoke and a bit more roasted character would fill in where this brew falls flat.

Thanks to Cavie for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the meaty smoke with a little bit of heavily roasted malts mixed in. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of smoke with some chocolate and roasted malt. You can taste the base porter behind the heavy smoked notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

(Served in a nonic)

A- This beer pours a black dense body with a boiling tan head that fades to a thick ring and a sea of slow motion carbonation.

S- The dark roasted malt has a hint of char and espresso stout but it is a bit thin.

T- The coffee roasted malt has a slightly sour smoke hint to it and a black roasted malt finish. There is a note of malt bitterness that comes through after the finish.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a watery texture that is a bit of slippery in the finish.

O- The nice brown porter has a touch of smoke that offer support but not overpowering. Very easy to drink especially for an 8% ABV.

A smoked porter, contract brew by Rahr. Pours clear, dark brown with lingering tan head. Plenty of scattered lace and thin head on surface and collar as it fades. No mistaking the smoke, as it is the star of the show. Perhaps, a little coffee along with the burnt malt aromas. The flavor is smoke and...I swear I just had a bit of crisp bacon chased with a swallow of coffee! The body is a creamy--medium with low carbonation.

Picked up at Champagne Cellars in December. Pretty good smoked porter. very good drinkability. Black with small retained head. Pleasant smokiness. Complex: A little BBQ, a little mocha, and a bit of sweet-spicyness. Medium mouthfeel.Fizzy carbonation.

The side of the bottle reads that it was brewed in San Jose, CA, though BA claims it's from Texas. Also, it asked to be kept refrigerated, and the shop I bought it from had it on the shelf, for what it's worth.

Some aggression needed for the pour. One finger tan head, coarse. Body is cloudy and deep brown, mostly opaque. Decent lace, some surface memory.

Nose is pretty empty, just some tartness, so I'll let it warm up and come back to it. Edit: later, barbecue smoke becomes apparent in the nose.

Taste has a huge malt presence with a finish that's a sort of cross between hops and barbecue. Not smoky in the way I usually think of for a rauch (and of course, this isn't one), but appropriate. Malt and coffee dominate the taste.

Mouthfeel is thin, the carbonation is slightly too bright, almost like a seltzer water. Not complementary to the style.

Not bad, but not particularly good either, and at the price (east coast), I wouldn't buy it again.

Poured from 22oz bottle into tulip glass.

Had about 2 fingers of foam and a great dark color. I love that! Had a nice tight smoke aroma that opened up and provided some bacon overtones. I love that! Nice rich coffee and with some acid on the palate to cut through. It is not a Stout and not a Dark Brown Ale which some of folks have made lately in style. A nice boost up from Stone which has been a consistent favorite. Would love to try this beer off a tap.

SOLID BREW!

22 oz. Fairly solid black pour, thin layer of off white head. Just barely sticks.

Very malty aroma. Caramel and brown sugar smoked bacon.

Taste, good balance between the base porter and the "smoke". Nice caramel, chocolate and peat. Goes to the smoked meat or bbq. Finishes with more smoke, light coffee and cocoa.

A little more lively than I'd like, but that makes it go down pretty easy. To the right of medium bodied. Just a minimal warming from the abv.

Thought this was excellent, but I'm really a fan of these smoked porters.

Pours black with a fading off-white head.
Nose shows sweet malt with roasted overtones and hints of chocolate. Somewhat subtle.
Sweet flavours too, almost baltic porter-like but without the roast to support it. Cloying.
Body feels a little watery.

Big thanks to JJFoodie for the local!

Pours an extremely dark brown, not quite pitch black. Tan head, two fingers, nice filmy lace trail. Smoke aroma is somewhat subtle, but there's also nice coffee roast notes and some chocolate. That smoke jumps out a bit more in the taste, as does the coffee notes and bitterness from it. Nice roasted malts and chocolate sweetness. Texture's creamy, medium bodied and nicely smooth.

Not wildly smoky, but nonetheless a solid, tasty porter with a pleasant smokiness. I'd drink it regularly.
