22 oz bomber pours a dark brown color with some crimson highlights. Head is fine and creamy and displays average retention. Not much lacing.

Nose is big on the smoke but does not completely cover up the roasty, peaty malts. Coffee, campfire, chocolate and caramel. Smells pretty damn good actually.

About as much smoke as you would want without it being totally dominant. Still lets the slightly sweet, dark malt flavors to come through nicely. It is smokier than a Stone Smoked Porter, but not as much as any of the Schlenkerla beers. Mouthfeel is pretty full and viscous. Does show a little bit of acrid bitterness about midway through the bomber, and the alcohol becomes noticeable. But overall this is a pretty good smoked beer, I enjoyed it. I would pick up another bomber or two if I saw it.

Big thanks to JJFoodie for the local!

Pours an extremely dark brown, not quite pitch black. Tan head, two fingers, nice filmy lace trail. Smoke aroma is somewhat subtle, but there's also nice coffee roast notes and some chocolate. That smoke jumps out a bit more in the taste, as does the coffee notes and bitterness from it. Nice roasted malts and chocolate sweetness. Texture's creamy, medium bodied and nicely smooth.

Not wildly smoky, but nonetheless a solid, tasty porter with a pleasant smokiness. I'd drink it regularly.

I got this in a 22oz bomber for $1.25 at big lots! I am just sampling out of sample glass I got at oktoberfest here in fresno.
APPEARANCE: its a redish brown color dark but very see through, not like most other porters I have had. Had to pour pretty rough to get any kind of head.

SMELL: first off I smell straight roasted chocolate, its got just a very malt forward smell, I also smell raisins..like chocolate covered raisins, no hop aroma what so ever

TASTE: smokey roasty chocolate right off the bat! Light Coffee in the background, taste a little bit of the alcohol which is not suprising at 8%.

MOUTHFEEL: medium bodied

OVERALL: good but I've had better. I do like the smokey taste to it, they did that well. I like it though! On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 6

My first time round with the Ass Kisser brand from Rahr & Sons.

Pours a dark brown color with a great looking inch of tight, pancake batter like head. Brilliant lacing as well.

Aroma is like smoked caramel. A little mesquite and a little sweet. Not too complex but bang on for the style.

The sweetness and the smokiness are apparent right away. THis has some chocolate and licorice flavors combined with a subtle, yet very apparent, smokiness that is in now way over powering. It's done well. A bit like a smokey tootsie roll.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. I'm still not sure why we're getting this brand from Rahr here in New England as we don't get any of their regular offerings.

I picked this up at Winooski Beverage in VT for about $7.

Trying the Ass Kisser Porter this Xmas Eve...it is a full bodied porter at 8% abv. The peer pours a dark almost completely opaque. A this ecru head forms at the top with minimal if any lacing. The smell smoke with light roast. The taste earth and peat mixed with smoke. The mouthfeel as mentioned is full bodied with decent carbontation. This isnt too bad of a porter.

Got this as an extra in a trade, enjoyed this beer.

A: Not totally opaque dark brown, when held up to the light you can see through the beer. Pinky of head dies to a ring with some lacing.

S: Lots of peat and smoke in the nose, pretty much dominates all else. A little bit of nutty, coffee chocolate aroma beneath that. Mostly nuts in the mix.

T: A lot less smoke in the taste though it kicks in nicely in the aftertaste with smooth balanced roasted malt, nuts and a bit of mocha. The peat is a nice finishing touch and lingers a while almost like a lighter scotch like a highland. Some flutters of clove and fruit, barley.

M: Very nice creamy feel, the feel really makes this beer. nice carbo and tingle over the palate.

Overall good.

Pours a pitch-black color with a thick brown head into my glass. Very good presentation for the style.

Smoky malt that has a slight amount of roasted coffee as well. Visceral and mainly all about the smoke.

Taste is comprised of smoky malt that dominates the mouthfeel, followed by a slight hint of roasted coffee. Again, all about the smoke here.

Lingering smoke and roastiness make up the overall mouthfeel. Chewy but not much else.

Certainly a smoked porter, albeit plain and simplistic. The high ABV will certainly allow you to stick it away for a while. Regardless, it's solid.

Poured from 22oz bottle into tulip glass.

Had about 2 fingers of foam and a great dark color. I love that! Had a nice tight smoke aroma that opened up and provided some bacon overtones. I love that! Nice rich coffee and with some acid on the palate to cut through. It is not a Stout and not a Dark Brown Ale which some of folks have made lately in style. A nice boost up from Stone which has been a consistent favorite. Would love to try this beer off a tap.

SOLID BREW!

The beer pours a very dark brown color with maroon shaded glimpses of light shining through the glass. The head is very rocky and foamy and about 3 inches tall. Nice and smoky aroma, almost like meat or bacon with undertones of coffee and chocolate. Loads of dark malty flavor, black coffee, earthy hops, and wood smoke. The feel was lighter than expected, nice amount of carbonation and a very dry finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this brew, I'm just confused that these used to be brewed by Rahr but now they are from AKA in San Jose?? I don't know what happened, I was trying to drink local.

L: Pours a nice thick black color with a tall sized and medium bodied tan colored head that laces the glass nicely on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet malts, smoky malts, and a hint of chocolate in there as well. The smoky malt was the main focus but it wasn't the only thing in there.
T: Tastes of sweet malts, smoky malt, hints of chocolate and coffee. Again, like the nose, the smoke is the main flavor but it is backed by the porter flavors and mixed well.
M: Smooth, rich, medium to heavy bodied, perfect amount of carbonation.
D: Overall it was pretty good, nice mix of flavors and feel, nice take on the style, and it did not feel as heavy as it is.

22 oz. Fairly solid black pour, thin layer of off white head. Just barely sticks.

Very malty aroma. Caramel and brown sugar smoked bacon.

Taste, good balance between the base porter and the "smoke". Nice caramel, chocolate and peat. Goes to the smoked meat or bbq. Finishes with more smoke, light coffee and cocoa.

A little more lively than I'd like, but that makes it go down pretty easy. To the right of medium bodied. Just a minimal warming from the abv.

Thought this was excellent, but I'm really a fan of these smoked porters.

A: Pours jet black with no head, just a small ring of foam around the outside edge of the glass

S: It has a nice soft and sweet smokey aroma. Very clean and no yeast aroma. There a slight amount of roasted grain coming through

T: A little sweet upfront but changes to a nice roasted and smokey flavor. It finishes nicely with just a very slight amount of bitterness.

M: Very smooth and light bodied. Carbonation could be a little better.

O: Pretty well balanced and fairly tame on the smoke, but still a very decent beer. Could use a little more carbonation to give it a little thinker body and more head retention. Going to have pickup some more of these bottles next time I'm at the store.

22-oz bottle into porter/stout glass

A - shallow medium tan head over a body of pitch black with ruby highlights

S - mocha, chocolate milk, grainy malts, smoke

T - coffee, chocolate, malt sweetness, smoke, dark fruits, notes of wood

M - oily medium body (a bit lighter than expected), high carbonation

O - This is an excellent porter. Head retention is unimpressive and it could use a little more body, but the taste and smell are excellent!

Strong, pleasing aroma is smoky and oily with hints of hops and licorice, demanding a taste. It pours a deep, rich sable with a decent light tan head. Flavor is smoky with definite tones of burnt wood, malt and molasses and a hint of caramel. Texture is thick, smooth and just a little tingly. This should please any porter fan!

A smoked porter, contract brew by Rahr. Pours clear, dark brown with lingering tan head. Plenty of scattered lace and thin head on surface and collar as it fades. No mistaking the smoke, as it is the star of the show. Perhaps, a little coffee along with the burnt malt aromas. The flavor is smoke and...I swear I just had a bit of crisp bacon chased with a swallow of coffee! The body is a creamy--medium with low carbonation.
