There is NO good beer bars in west omaha, until I found this one. amazing selectino of beers, I was there after a goose island tap takeover, and had some great nebraska brewing beeron tap as well.
The most surprising part of the bar was the staff,
this isn't mean tot be sexist, but i guess it is, most bartenders are guys, and have beers and are not cute. But not here, there was 2 female bartenders, both of them REALLY knew their beer. Talked about the beers they had, what was available, what is like another beer, similar ones to the ones I was drinking. and the jazz music was playing on stage. Very cool bar, center bar is a bit odd, but overall great service.
I HIGHLY recommend that if you like beer, and hate driving to Benson or downtown to get some good beers...don't go anymore, come here!

Thanks for having us. I have been here several times and it is always lively. There is no lack of knowledge behind the bar. The selection is always changing.
A nice relaxed atmosphere where questions can be asked and discussion initiated with fellow patrons. Ben and Chad have always taken the time to explain the new beers they have to offer and make suggestions according to your preferences.
Another nice thing about this place is that the website has a listing of all of the offerings and is always up to date.

Great place to surround yourself with other beer geeks, especially the bartender. Went on a Thursday night and it was about 50% full. I haven't been to any of the live music shows but they are frequent and stocked full of local talent. iPads circulate for menus when available
Prices are very reasonable and the staff really know their stuff when it comes to brewery facts and like tasting beers (and everything else you want to know - just ask).
My only complaint is that depending on when you go it could be a short wait to get staff to take your order due to the limited employees on duty. That is also a half-compliment as they take the time to discuss the beer and drink selection and generate a personal interest in your visit.
My new favorite place to beer geek out.

The Lauter Tun is one of those places where a beer nerd can feel at home. It's physical location is a little far for me, but it sits in an excellent spot -- it's one of the few (if only) craft beer bars in that area and, it being in a strip-mall where there is minimal foot traffic, the people who go there are 90% of the time there for the beer or the music.
The tap selection is reasonable (22 taps I think) with a good assortment of different types of beer. The bottle selection isn't spectacularly large, but that's not a game-breaker for me. My "complaint" is, as of last night, I have had all their tap beers and all their bottles. Which isn't a real complaint; it's more a commentary on my own diverse drinking habits.
Chad and Ben are two of the most knowledgeable people on the subject of beer that I can think of. They are two of the very few people I can say to "Bring me something interesting" and I KNOW that I will get something tasty or at least interesting/complex to drink.
My only real complaint is that it can get a bit crowded in there. However, this has the added benefit of "forcing" you to talk to the other patrons. And since everyone is ostensibly out there for either the good beer or sweet music events, everyone has a common interest and should have a fabulous time.
The prices are, in my view, quite reasonable. But I'm the kind of beer drinker where I have no problem paying $10 for a glass of Fathead Barley Wine or $25 for a bomber of good beer. *shrug*
All-in-all I love the Lauter Tun. I just wish I lived closer. Alas.

One of the best new bars in Omaha. Great wait staff...very helpful. The venue is superb and the weekends are a blast with the live music. The patrons are fun to be a round ( excluding the 13 IQ person who wrote the first review) and all have been somewhat regulars as have I.The knowledge of the bartenders is like you were in Chicago or New York at one of their fine craft beer bars and the selections are very diverse.
The location and decor are very are perfect for West omaha...something that will always be well received.
keep up the great work.

Oddly enough; I happen to like the things about the bar that the last reviewer complained about. The Lauter Tun definitely isn't a huge, but I feel the limited space has been well utilized.
The low U-bar that the last reviewer complained about in combination with the raised stage ensure every seat in the house is a good seat to watch the band or whatever happens to be on the big screen. I have been there multiple times for bands already and the volume has always been very tolerable. Some of the bands are also quite fun. I highly recommend checking out Banjo Loco there sometime!
I happen to really like the atmosphere. Sure the walls are a bit lacking of decor at the moment. Considering The Lauter Tun opened just a month or so ago and Chad, the owner, has some art coming; the atmosphere will be improving tremendously.
The selection of tap beer is good. It may not be as large of a selection as Krug Park or Beer Corner USA, but everybody has to start somewhere. The fact that only one tap of the 22 is swill makes me quite happy. Them being a huge supporter of Nebraska Brewing Company, other local breweries, and home-brewers makes me even happier.
As for the selection of bottled beer in the cooler... yeah, it isn't that great. I really don't care about that though. If I want to drink bottled beer, I'll do that at home. I'm there for the draft beer. It'd be completely fine with me if they replaced the cooler with more taps. But that's just me.
Chad, Ben, and Shawn are all very knowledgeable about beer and are always great to talk to. I have a rule to always know the name of the person that serves me. I find it awesome that they go out of their way to make sure they know the names of the people they serve. At least of those that come in more than once or twice.
Prices at The Lauter Tun definitely aren't as low as The Library's. I definitely can't argue with that. As for the small pours the previous reviewer complained about, those are only for reserve series beer such as Nebraska Brewing Company's Black Betty. That is common practice everywhere in Omaha (other than The Library) due to the higher alcohol content. All non-reserve series beer is served in the normal size glass and *always* in the proper stemware when appropriate.
If you are into craft/artisan beer; I highly recommend that you check The Lauter Tun out. Don't just go there to check out the beer though. Get to know Chad, Ben, and Shawn and become part of the craft beer community.

The Lauter Tun sits in a little strip on the periphery of a shopping mall. The night we went, we pushed through a pod of miserable looking smokers standing in the rain, crowding the entrance.
In the center of the place is a huge U bar, with a raised stage against the back wall; talltops and counters were scattered around the edges of the room.
Atmosphere was kinda sad...like a bad hotel restaurant bar.
It's a poorly designed low counter. From my stool, I could see all the trash, chemicals, boxes and shit on the floor and beneath all the counters. The taps were way in the back too, so the bartender had to walk like 20 feet to get me a beer. wtf? The stage was a nice touch, but this place is too enclosed and loud even without music.
Beer selection was alright, probably on par with The Library...though half the taps of a place like Krug Park. Prices were somewhat high, but not terrible (most of their brews were small 8oz pours too). Their bottle selection was piddly, one small cooler in the middle of the bar.
There's no food available.
Service was good, if not a bit breathless. The bartended we had was fairly knowledgeable about the brews, and service was quick.
So, in conclusion...not a great vibe or atmosphere. The beer selection and prices are mediocre. The service was good.
