This review is based on the January version as Hops & Grain will be experimenting with each monthly batch. The basic IPA recipe will remain the same but H&G will be showcasing the different hop varieties by dry-hopping post-fermentation with a different hop to create dramatically different flavors and aromas. The first (January) release is highlighting Mosaic hops with a small amount of Meridian and Nugget hops to add some juiciness. The Greenhouse IPA poured a deep golden amber with a large fluffy white head. The nose was citrus and dank hops that had my mouth watering. The taste was a grapefruit citrus and deep dank earthy hops that deftly dominated my taste buds. There was enough of a sweetness to the malt profile to balance the hops and made this brew a dangerously drinkable IPA. The Mosaic hops were a great kick-off to the series and the grapefruit and dank flavors really shine. I will be looking forward to the next months iteration and hope I can get my hands on this again as with only 300 case a batch these will go quickly!

Poured from the can into my riegel IPA glass.
January release. Thanks to my buddy Steven Z. for the hook-up!!!

A - Pours a hazy gold, with tinges of orange. a dense 3-finger head forms,
hanging around for a good while, and leaving excellent lacing. A good bit of love obviously went into this beer.

S - Dank pine and citrus aromas abound, showing notes of mango (God bless that Mosaic hop!), stone-fruit, and grapefruit pith. A bit of lemon hangs out as well, with basil, and rosemary in the background. I could smell this beer all day.

T - Follows the nose. Meyer lemon, mango, vegetal bell pepper, and apricot, with a bit of underlying booziness that hugs the palate. Damn, I need a clone recipe for this bad-boy. I LOVE Mosaic hops, and this beer just gives me another reason to do so. The herbal notes from the nose carry over to the palate, but aren't cloying in any way, and invite you to sip... and sip... and sip... until your glass is empty, and you're sad that your beer is gone. *Sighs*

M - Light Carbonation for an IPA, which does this beer a good bit of justice, by not forcing the hop resins onto your tongue. A little bit creamy, but also slick and slightly oily. Once again, I could drink this beer all day. That being said, if I did, I wouldn't accomplish anything, because after one pint, I'm feeling a bit "right"...

o - H&G outdid themselves with this one. I really wish it was more available in DFW, but one can wish in one hand, and so on and so forth. All across the board, this beer is what every other Mosaic-based IPA wishes that it was. Take a backseat, Community and Victory. Hops & Grain kicked your collective asses with this release!!! If you have a chance to get your hands on even a single pint of this beer, DO EEET! Your tongue, liver, and sanity will thank you in every way possible. (And so will I, and the nice folks at H&G, who deserve a cookie and a high-five for crafting this delicious beer.)
