Had a buddy move to Austin this week and he brought this back to Houston for me. Cheers Mario.

A - poured from a can into a tulip, cause duh, tulip. It's a beautiful color - dark orange with sunset or whatever. It's a really nice color. Visible carbonation. No head, but others I've had had some head. No lacing.

S - there's a bit of maltiness and just a little bit of fruity hops. I get the maltiness mostly, but the entire thing is pretty muted. There's some alcohol on the end if you huff it like Scarface.

T - yum. Solid citrus up front, mostly, um, grapefruit or orange or lemon zest or some other shit. I don't know, it's bright and fresh and good. The maltiness in the nose follows with good balance, and there's a little tang at the end. Really solid. It does have that "Texas" taste that all beers made here seem to have.

M - fresh and bubbly, nice. The bitterness sticks around for a bit, but it's not overly unpleasant.

O - distinctly Texan beer. A solid pale ale but nothing that is particularly unbelievable. Seems to be the MO of most of the beers I've tried down here.

12 oz can pours a very hazed, light copper color with a small, tight cap of tan head. Retention is average and lacing slightly above.

Nose is candy caramel apple with a light toasty malt aroma. Hops are a little bit of pine and tropical fruit.

Taste has pretty substantial contributions from both the hops and malt. starts with a tropical hop flavor, followed by a strong toast/toffee/caramel malt. Finishes plenty bitter as well. More of a hoppy amber than a pale to me, and the malts sometimes get carried away on the toasty side, but not too shabby. I wont have much problem finishing my sixer, but it would have to take a good sale price for me to reach for this one again.

Nice looking, clear and reddish-tan with a pretty good head and some flecks of lace.

Aroma is nice too, good and hoppy, a little fruity, pine and resin.

Tastes nice, hops are plentiful, with resinous hop oils noted, some citrus and pine, plus an amply malty base with a sweet note to make this a full but quite drinkable pale ale.

Body is medium, carbonation is medium, overall it's a pretty strong tasting, strong finishing pale ale, giving the illusion of being a bigger beer than it really is.

I like it. I took a chance on a six pack and I will certainly enjoy the other five. Would buy again.

Poured from the (rather attractive) can into a pint glass.

I haven't written a review for a while, but this beer made me get up and say something.

This pale ale pours an opaque, bright copper, with unfiltered specks here and there. A small head recedes to a decent cloud. Minimal lacing.

Smells of fruit rind and resin, with some piney notes. Welcoming but subdued.

It's the taste that has me running to review this. I pick up an undeniable smoked cherrywood flavor in this - light on the smoke, heavy on the cherry. The sweet note is strange but welcome, in terms of the style. The bitterness that backs it up is herbal, almost Campari-like. These high notes in an otherwise average pale ale makes it extremely memorable.

Flavor is full, not as crisp as some pale ales. Juicy, with a lingering carbonation. Very pleasant.

I purchased this in a mix-six, toying around with cans. I didn't expect to get quite so blown away. It's not a genre-defying beer, but it's a great take on the style.
