On tap at Hunahpu's Day 2014. Murky tannish-brown with tan head that held, thicker at the edges than the middle. Aroma was toffee/molasses with a good touch of oak and bourbon/rye. Hints of vanilla and cinnamon run throughout as well. Taste is all that was in the aroma. Layers of flavor colliding on my tongue. Really great.

Pours a very dark but translucent ruby. Not much head but visible bubbles. Lots of raisin, fig, some chocolate and roastiness. Lovely.

375ml bottle poured into snifter. Huge thanks to liquiddegenerate for the bottle!

A - Pours a rich murky brown with a finger of tan head. It's not pretty, which I don't expect a big barleywine to be.

S - Sugar cane, plums, figs, raisins, mixed with a bit of harsh booze and a hint of that rye. Smells tasty, although it isn't strong.

T - This is interesting. A lot going on inside of this beer. Starts off with figs and raisins macerated in burnt brown sugar. That fades into some bitterness (the bitterness seemed out of place though) and exits with straight spicy rye whiskey. This is the most obvious Rye Whiskey has ever been in a beer. I really enjoyed this aspect. I should have drank this with a reuben...

M - Well hidden alcohol, medium mouthfeel. Drinkable for a barleywine. Not too thin and not too thick.

O - This is a very good and extremely interesting BA barleywine. Not like anything I've ever had. If it wasn't for the random bitterness in the middle, it would have joined my top 10 BA Barleywines, but as it is, is worth trying and I will seek out again.

Poured from bottle into 7venth Sun Tulip

A: Pours a rich dark raisin color with a good finger of slightly off-white head

S: Sweet, ripe plumbs, raisins, dark fruits. A bit of rum, a bit of hops, and a spiciness of rye

T: Taste follows nose very similarly. Up front lots of sweet dark fruits like plumbs and figs. A bit like rum soaked raisins. Then mid pallet you are hit with a lot of bitter hops. The finish is very dry and spicy from the rye. It's a very bitter/dry/spicy aftertaste that I wasn't the biggest fan of.

M: Sticky sweet, nice carbonation.

O: It's a decent barleywine. I enjoyed the rum soaked raisin taste due to the rum barrels but it was a overly hoppy. I think with some age this beer will turn into something very nice. For me the hops need to fade to help balance this beer. Fresh there's just too much with the sticky sweetness, bitter hops, and spicy rye.
