Crafted from a heady blend of English & domestic style malts, combined with a bodacious infusion of Pacific Northwest hops, Big Red is a sinfully delicious session brew. Big Red's malt backbone lends a smoothness and balances the impressive hoppy tones added through the kettle & dry hopping process. Its citrus aroma, brilliant medium-copper color, and long standing foam provide a most satisfying sensory impression. Not astringent or sweet, Big Red Beaver is an IPA you can enjoy day or night. After one taste you're sure to say "bottoms up".

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Pours cloudy reddish amber. 1/4 inch white foam mostly settles down. Very faint toffee nutty smell, but have to draw it out. Standard amber ale taste - caramel toffee on top. Very minor hop amidst the malty flavor.
Not sure how this is an IPA. More like a hoppy amber. Pretty good blend.

$ 1.63 (including tax) per 12 oz bottle ($ 0.136/oz) at BevMax, Danbury, CT
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – spicy hops
Head – Large (Maximum five cm, aggressive pour), light tan, frothy, diminishing to irregular two to three mm ring and heaped partial layer
Lacing – excellent. Wide band of tiny to small bubbles
Body – dark amber, cloudy
Flavor – malty with some hop spiciness, well balanced; no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate medium, creamy, lively carbonation
A very malty take on an IPA, quite good. Definitely worth buying again.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #70 (November 2012):
Without a doubt, we have a hoppy beer here. Not solely measured in bitterness, but flavor as well. While there might be some balance here, there are other characteristics that weigh in on the palate that are not as favorable. Yeast seems to run too far on the palate and the hopping is a bit chaotic and does not mesh well.
STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 6.0%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round
LOOK: Cloudy rust hued amber, lots of froth
SMELL: Hop forward, catty, cumquats, green peppercorn, caramel, bread crust, yeast
TASTE: Smooth, medium bodied, balance bitterness, caramel, toasted biscuits, blood oranges, pithy, mild alcohol, broth, nutty, green onion, semi-dry bitter finish

12 oz. bottle.
Robust amber-orange with some floaties. Tall, rocky, whipped head. Very nice lacing. Nose of caramel and fruit malts (definitely some crystal malt in here). Floral, piny, and citrusy hop aromas.
Slightly astringent grain that soon gives way to herbal, floral, minty hop bitterness. Fruity malt sweetness fills in. Toasted caramel edge. Moderate body with a slightly fizzy feel. Not bad, but plenty forgettable.

Easy drinking IPA. Best sessionable IPA in my opinion, taste like a better Harpoon IPA to me. Little smokey, little spicy, little hoppy, little bitter. Not overwhelmingly hoppy. I've had it on draft and in the bottle, it's pretty heady with good flavor.
