8.0% ABV. "Double India Pale Ale." 1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle acquired at Lone Tree brewing this afternoon and served into a Guinness goblet in me friend's gaff in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Reviewed live. Expectations are average given the brewery.

Served cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a 2.5 finger wide head of beige colour. Nice soft complexion. Decent creaminess. Nice thickness. Good (~5 minute) retention. Nice frothiness.

Body colour is a clear vibrant copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Transparent. Translucent.

Overall, it's pretty standard fare for the style but it's appealing.

Sm: Floral and oily hop character. Clean pale malts. Soap/detergent. Some lemon zest.

No yeast or alcohol is detectable. A mild strength aroma.

T: Soapy - this spent too long in primary. Clean pale malts. Some floral hop character. Light fruit: tangerine, maybe orange. No naked hop bitterness comes through. I guess the balance is okay, but the soapiness ruins the flavour profile.

No yeast character or alcohol comes through. Flavour intensity is timid for the style; this isn't very flavorful at all. Flavour duration is also a bit mild.

Little complexity or subtlety here. I'm not a big fan.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Soapy. Lightly oily. Decently carbonated. A bit too thick on the style. Doesn't really suit the profile well.

Dr: Tolerable but ultimately rather mediocre. A rather poor Imperial IPA, but it's passable in general terms. I certainly wouldn't get it again. Alcohol is hidden okay. A(nother) disappointment from Lone Tree brewing.

Enjoyed at the brewery May 13th

Dark amber in color; very minimal head; light lacing; 'soapy' bubbles present; grassy on the nose; hoppy and citrusy, almost orange or tangerine smelling; great balance up-front; overall, heady grapefruit and smooth hop flavor; bitter and slightly piney; easy-going 8% abv beer...borderline sessionable; probably the best LTBC beer, although I'm always sympathetic to IPAs.

22oz bottle $7.99. Aroma is hoppy, citrus, hint of malts. Flavor is hoppy but in a fruity way and a thick malt behind it. It is not bad at all. I am totally biased towards West Coast beers and this isn't one but its a decent beer, sort of chewy malts. This won't knock your socks off but you won't regret the purchase, at least I don't.

this is a big red ipa, somehow freakishly sessionable despite its abv. also my first beer from lone tree, and I am impressed! on tap at bike cafe in Denver. the pours is luxuriously soft amber with a frothy dense tan head, creamy looking and persistent. nice presentation! smells more malty than hoppy for a big ipa, balanced caramel and red malt, with some citrusy hops, not as intense as some other india pales of this magnitude. the alcohol is nowhere near 8% in nose or taste, so well don't on that front. the beer is also really well balanced, bold, and with hops being victorious over malt, its in good proportion. malts are only a little sweet, but they provide a ton of pillowy body. the hops smell like citrus, but they taste like tree. fresh spruce more specifically, Christmas style, or perfect from springtime too. only moderately bitter in the finish, damn tasty. feel is the best part for me, its got a huge creamy body, almost like a nitro beer, and is very comfortable feeling for an ipa of this size. not sure how its done, but this is a major achievement. I will absolutely be looking to try more lone tree beers in the near future.
