32 oz Alesmith grumbler filled less than an hour ago at Lone Tree and served into a nonical pint glass in me parents' gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are below average given the brewery.
Served cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: Pours a one finger wide head of white colour. Painfully thin. No creaminess whatsoever. Retention is horrid - about 40 seconds. No lacing as the head recedes.
Body colour is a clear straw yellow of below average vibrance. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.
Sm: Pils malts, straw, floral hops, and some light detergent. A bit repugnant, to be honest. Others with me have remarked that it smells like vomit and urine, but they're not the most sophisticated beer drinkers. Certainly off putting and clearly over-hopped. No yeast character or alcohol is detectable. An unpleasant aroma of average strength.
T: White berry, straw, pilsner malts, detergent/light soap, lemon-scented air freshener, and horribly executed floral hop character. Clean barley may be its "best" feature. Yeah; this isn't a good beer. Awful build for the style; really misses the mark. Poor execution, poor balance. No complexity or subtlety here. Flavour intensity is average. Shallow depth of flavour. Below average duration of flavour.
My mother - who was a nurse for 40 years - claims it smells like an infected dressing someone forgot to dispose of in the hazardous waste bin.
Mf: Smooth and wet. Okay body. Bad presence on the palate. A bit thin. Poor execution. Adequate carbonation.
Dr: Atrocious for a cream ale, and generally bad outside of style conventions. Definitely wouldn't get this again, and I'm kicking myself for not getting a sample before grabbing a growler fill. Another subpar brew from Lone Tree. Difficult to drink given its low quality.
