Pours chestnut with a finger of tan head. Not much head retention or lacing

S: Brown bread & nutty notes

T: Brown bread, walnut shell notes & herbal hop notes slight caramel flavor up front. Dryness, slight astringencey & a bit of nuttyness (more hazel nut sweetness, but a bit of walnut too) as this warms up. Finishes nutty, dry & slightly sweet

MF: Medium bodied, firm carbonation

Super drinkability, a whole lot of flavor in a sessionable ale (450 characters)

T: Good taste. Earthy start hoppy\bitter nut finish. Very nicely balanced.

Poured into a pint glass. Dark, opaque brown color with minimal head.
It smells like walnuts, if only faintly. A little candy smell comes through too.
Wow. It tastes exactly like root beer for the first 2 seconds. Then the flavor "waters" out a bit. Some dry bitterness at the end.
Smooth texture, medium body and moderate carbonation.
If nothing else it is interesting with the walnuts and the taste of root beer. (415 characters)

Piney River Black Walnut Wheat has an extremely thick, beige, fizzy, head, a mostly clear, bubbly, brown appearance, and minimal lacing left on the glass. The aroma is full and of sweet bread crust, some brown bread yeast, and possibly walnut. Taste is of sweet, syrupy malt, brown bread, maybe some nut, and no real bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium and a touch slick, and Piney River Black Walnut Wheat finishes on the wet side and highly drinkable.

I had this at a festival at the Public House in Rolla. There were a lot of great beers there but by far this was my favorite. It is not what you expect form the name and that was the intention of the brewer. It was a little bit darker than most American Wheats but I was reluctant to call it a dark wheat. It pours with moderate head and lacing. An awesome aroma of wheat malt and berries are appearent before you even it get it close to your nose. It has peppery and berry like taste produced by the walnuts that is unlike anything I have ever tasted. There are not much for nut esters mainly berries and some clove. It has some bit to the body but is mainly very smooth. It is a great late summer early fall beer. (715 characters)

Poured in a shaker at Blackthorn Pizza and Pub in Joplin, Missouri.

New brewery to me, but what an introduction. Pours an old penny copper, quite clear, almost no head.

Nose is sweet, and nutty. Walnut comes through in the nose. No hops that I can detect. Nothing but grain and walnut.

Taste is... Wow, how to describe this. There's no bitterness, no hop presence at all. It tastes like black walnuts. And it works. It's a tad sweet, and subtly nutty. Like liquid walnut pie. It's hard to do this service in words, but it's good. Walnuts, man. Walnuts.

The mouthfeel is sufficiently light to prevent this being cloying. With no discernable hops, that's a good thing.

Okay, I expected this to be a gimmick, sweet, artificial, all sorts of bad. I am happy to be wrong on all counts. This is well done, nutty, well balanced, and just plain good. I have absolutely no idea how readily available this is, but if you see it, try it. (935 characters)

Pours a clear, dark brown color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smells of pale malt, sweet malt, hint of nut, hint of hop, hint of roasted malt, and slight mushroom aromas. Fits the style of an American Dark Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of nut, sweet malt, hint of roasted malt, slight pale malt, hint of hop, and a hint of mushroom, lol. Overall, weak appearance and lacking complexity, but good aroma and body. (505 characters)
