Purchased at La Cave a Bulles in Paris, France. Poured into a snifter.

Appearance: Lots of other reviews think this beer has an ugly appearance. True, it is unfiltered - a very cloudy dark amber color. And there may be some floaties as well. But mine had a nice fluffy fingers-worth of foam and some decent lacing. I think it just makes the beer look more hand-crafted.

Smell: Wonderful and bright, with lots of orange zest and lemon.

Taste: Creamy, with a lot of orange and citrus flavors. A touch of pine as well. As it warms, the hops seem to mellow a bit.

Mouthfeel: Nice and bright, but maybe a little on the thin side. Very drinkable and balanced, with a medium finish.

Overall: It might not be Heady Topper or Pliny, but it shows that the French can make a DIPA that can at least compete with what the Americans can make. Good beer, and worth trying.

Shared a 750 mL of this with my drinking buddy, Arithmeticus. We poured into standard pint glasses

A: Ugly. It was unfiltered with lots of material floating-- almost muddy, thin head and effervescent
S: Complex- very hoppy, citrus, bubblegum, solvent
T: Also complex: piney, resinous, not much citrus, balanced on the front but with a lingering bitterness
M: Medium mouthfeel with decent carb
O: I have to admit I was very surprised by how decent this offering was. Definitely worth a try- just close your eyes!

Poured chilled in standard ale glass

A: very muddy amber; lots of yeast at bottom of glass; cap has residue; small head; unfiltered; lots of floaties
S: very hoppy aroma; orangelike; very sweet
T: highly complex; very hoppy; lingering bitterness; strong hop profile; prob. NW US hops; very abrasive; huge beer!

incredible--very good. Never had a beer that looked so bad but tasted so good.

Beer presented on draft at Borefts Bier Festival 2013, but review from the bottle.
A: Pours cloudy amber. Head is off-white in color, small but lingering.
S: Very hoppy smell in the first place, fruity, with loads of grapefruit, also mango and tangerine. Sweet, malty background. Earthy bitterness on the finish with some vegetated/medicinal esters.
T: Fruity upfront, quite heavy after, with caramel and toffee malts, some cheesecake or whipped cream behind. Balanced by resinous hoppy flavors. Finishes very bitter, with a long aftertaste.
M: Chewy mouthfeel but with a pretty good carbonation. The finish is extremely dry, which helps for drinkability.
O: Pleasant nose, but quite an heavy brew for the style, a bit unbalanced on the malt side. Still quite enjoyable.
