I drove a friend to Enid to pick up a car he purchased last night (11/13/14). We live an hour away, but don't go there often so I checked BA and the unforgivable interwebs for possible stops. The clear choice was Callahan's as it was also recommended by a couple of local guys that new a little about craft beer. Car deal complete, we headed to the pub at sunset.

Located in old downtown Enid, OK, crouched down in between some taller old buildings, Callahan's with it's brick and wrought iron facade has a "been there forever" kind of vibe. Fairly inviting look to the place - lots of wood, brick, brass, high ceilings, on two floors, including outside seating at both street and balcony levels (30F on this day though). Regular and bar height open tables (both small and large), cozy booths, and 15 or so stools at the wrap-around bar offer plenty of options to make you comfortable. If you want more intimate private seating, then upstairs seems to be a good spot. It has what's been presented to me as "the British/Irish pub theme and feel." Lots of glass blocks allows plenty of natural light during the daytime I assume.

Beer selection is not bad considering we're in the great plains of northwestern plains of OK. Taps were pretty commercial, the standout draughts being Ayinger Hefeweizen, Weinstephaner Pale, Schneider Aventinus Weizenbock, and Boulevard Tank 7, and a Green Flash IPA (I think). The bottle menu is comprised of about 50+ beers, the heavy hitters being from Prairie Artisan Ales (including Bomb!), some Trappist and other Belgians, and some decent Germans. Standards included Rogue, Green Flash, Brewdog, Caldera, Boulevard, and Anchor. Even though the beer selection is the best I know of in the area, it still gets the low point of the establishment.

The food is way better than I expected and comes at a reasonable price. I had two beers, a great baja chicken enchilada soup, the chicken pico sandwich, and pub fries for just over $20. They offer a nice variety - fish and chips, Scotch eggs, cedar plank salmon, steaks, burgers, coriander hummus, hawg wings, curry nachos, shepherd's pie, sandwiches, salads, and some of their own house dishes which tend to be spicy Asian inspired. Everything looks great.

Service was very good although as the place filled up after 5pm they were more challenged to keep up with the crowd. That's expected. A local guy who sat next to us said he loves the place, but get there early before the crowd hits. The bartender with the long red beard and waxed handlebar mustache was very friendly, talkative, and knew his stuff. Props to that guy!

Overall we liked Callahan's a lot. If they could upgrade the beer menu by getting more quality brews and weeding out some of those uninspiring ones, then I could give them one hell of rating. Still, 4.1/5.0 is something to brag about in these parts. I'll definitely be back.

I moved to Enid a couple months ago. I was spoiled with beer coming from the east coast. Callahans is an alright place. There are 12 taps of your average beer and a decent bottle selection. They have a rooftop patio that looks nice, I have yet to eat up there. The food is alright at best. They serve 1/3 pound burgers for a 1/2 pound price. Every other place Ive been to has served 1/2 pound burgers, so this kinda irked me. There is not a huge selection on the menu. Its your stereotypical "Irish Pub." It has by far the best selection of beer in Enid and the best place to have one.
