Pours pitch black with small head and respectable lacing.

Aroma is of mild coffee and roasted malts.

The taste is moderatelt bitter with a very noticeable smoked flavour. It reminded me of smoked ham in the finish. There were hints of coffee in the flavour and very mild chocolate notes

Overall this was quite enjoyable and had a strong smoked character. The other flavours were a little muted a it felt just a bit more light and easy drinking in the mouthfell than I would have preferred.

Couldn't get my Pops to try a sip of this one, which turned out to be fine, more delicious and surprisingly refreshing Icelandic Porter for me!

Poured dark-as-tar black and little foam on top, very faint smell of roasted coffee and maybe oats. Not for sure oats, definitely maybe oats.

Taste was light on the tongue and didn't try to hold me down on the kitchen floor and hit me over the head with alcohol or coffee or any smoky-type flavor. It was delicious, very drinkable and had a nice little flourish at the end that said, "don't forget big boy, I was lightly toasted."

I really enjoyed this beer, even if you're scared of dark beer, don't fear, this one's well worth your dinero.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass at Caddyshanks in Orlando.

Appearance: A one finger mocha head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pitch black color with no vision of anything. Spotty lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Toasted, chocolate, coffee, toffee, caramel, smoke, and earthy notes.

Taste: Same as above. Chocolate and toffee sweetness stand out with a little bitterness in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Super smooth, a little sweet from the chocolate, medium bodied, some bitterness, and medium carbonation.

Overall: Never seen the bottle so I had to try it. Need to enjoy a few of these before heading back to Boston.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into small pint glass.
A: Pours an extremely dark black-brown with a nice 1-2 inch light tan head with decent retention. (4)
S: Coffee dominates the aroma. Mild roasted nuttiness. Hint of chocolate malt. (3.75)
T: Medium roast coffee, nutty note, dark chocolate. (3.75)
M: Very smooth and darkly sweet. Hint of creamy feel. Very little bitterness in the feel. (3.75)
D: A nice example of style. The coffee note was a bit off, otherwise a solid brew. (3.75)

From a bottle, pours dark brown, almost black. Very still, thin brown head with not much retention.

The nose is smoke, roasted malts, very toasty, a little chocolate. Flavors are dry roast, oats, bitter dark chocolate, a little dough. This was interesting a and a fun one to try.

Light and drinkable, but a bit too sweet for my tastes.

I am continuing the Bottle Divestment of the Summer of 2014 and I became inspired by one that was recently dropped off for me by my local, in-person trader, tone77. I have the Sugarcubes playing to accompany this (optional, but not for me) review.

From the bottle: "N65/W18"; "Ale Brewed with Icelandic Roasted Coffee"; "With clear noteds of toffee and dark chocolate, this Porter is roasty and rich, offering a medium body that is robust, yet smooth on the palate. Toasted and chocolate malts give it a sinister black color, but its easy-to-drink taste will have you believing that there's no more need to be afraid of the dark. DREKKTU. SIGRADU. ENDURTAKTU!"; "Sustainable Iceland since 874 AD".

There were noticeable lees sitting in the punt of the bottle, so I employed a gentle pour after popping the cap. Employing a Bartender's Trick, I gave it a gentle swirl, bringing up a finger of fizzy, light-brown head with decent retention. Color was a Very Dark Brown, but not quite Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with garnet highlights visible. nose had a nice coffee roastiness along with a light nuttiness. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy. Taste was not as bitter as the nose had led me to expect, but instead had a nuttiness offsetting the coffee flavors. It was like a Porter approaching being a Stout. Finish was semi-dry and it suddenly hit me - it was like when we cut Mess Decks' coffee's bitterness with chicory! I liked the way that it was not so bitter as to be overwhelming.
