Pours hazy, golden-brown in color with 1/4 inch head that goes quickly. Taste is pale malt, toffee, honey, and husk. Above average, semi-sticky body, but tasty. Not very hop forward. I would get this one again, but I prefer others in the style.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into IPA glass.

Appearance: Light amber with decent head and lacing.

Smell: Caramel, toast, citrus and noble hop spiciness.

Taste: Caramel and toasted malt backbone. Hops are a mix of citrus and noble hop earth, herbal and spice notes. Slightly bitter finish.

Feel: Medium body, moderate carbonation, dry finish.

Overall: Basically like a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with a more Germanic hop influence.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2012. Picked up from my local beer specialist. I like the hard viking dude on the label.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear, deep golden-amber colour with good carbonation. Yields a large head of frothy off-white foam that subsides rapidly. Aroma of aromatic hops underpinned by light caramel malt. Notes of grapefruit, citrus and grain. Nice.

Tastes of light malt with an aromatic hop character and a crisp bitter finish. Slight malty sweetness. Notes of grapefruit, citrus, grain and faint yeast esters. A hint of diacetyl in the background. A dry bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and prickly, with decent body. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of aromatic hops.

A pretty good effort, particularly coming from so close to the arctic circle. The aroma is pleasing, with a good dose of citrus hops. The flavour is similar, but the hop character is weaker - the taste doesn't quite match the quality that the aroma promises. Nonetheless, it's certainly drinkable and goes down nicely. Can't wait to try more from this brewery.

Einstök Ölgerð Pale Ale
12 oz. brown glass bottle

I was so excited for this beer! It's got a beautiful label and it's from Iceland, what more can you ask for? Unfortunately the beer itself has to deliver.

So, American pale ale? Yes, they use American hops, Cascade in fact, but that doesn't make it an American pale ale. The label reads "Icelandic" so I'll just go with that, and of course I can certainly forgive the listing as there's no other category that it really fits. Maybe it's so lightly hopped because that's the Icelandic style, they can't grow them, so they just use less, as the Scottish did.

I found it clean, well-brewed, and balanced but in general, lacking overall. There's a hint of Cascade, which is great, but the malt is limited as well and it's only slightly caramelish. It's not as if you'd be confused as to whether you were drinking an ale or a lager, but it borders on becoming that.

Poured a half finger of head on a medium amber colored body.
The aroma is caramel and honey. Pleasant.
The taste starts out with mild bitterness, moves to chalky bitterness and finishes sour. A bit disjointed.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
A descent pale ale.
