Cool looking matte bottle label and a simple, classy logo. I've never seen this one before. Looked like it could be interesting. Looks, however, can be deceiving, and this one was hard to finish. I poured more than half of it away. Not disgusting, but I had better options in the fridge. I wouldn't recommend it.

Tries to be the best of all worlds and comes short. Noble hops combined with Northern Brewer and Cascade. Unfortunatly it doesn't quite work. Think toothpaste and orange juice. You don't want to combine the mintiness of NB with the citrusy/floral Cascade. It falls flat with a lingering biitterness on the back middle of the tongue.

This is not a pale ale, it's a bland bitter waste of beer. Skip it and head for their porter, it's delicious.

Poured from a bottle into pint glass in December 2014.

Appearance: Medium red color, that is a bit cloudy. The head is thick and light colored, or off-tan. The head lasted a very long time, and left a nice coating on the inside of the glass.

Smell: Pleasant, with a hops influence. The is some citrus flavors in the aroma, as well as a spices. The various aromas make for an interesting contrast.

Taste: An interesting mix of hops, citrus, and herbs in the flavor, that make for an interesting APA, but with a little bit of sweetness. There is a nice after-taste, that lasts for a while but not too long.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and crisp, with a medium body.

Overall: This is an interesting APA. There is a variety of flavors, but none of these flavors overshadow the other flavors. Good when a lighter beer (hops are not too strong and not very malty) is desired.

Einstök Ölgerð Pale Ale
12 oz. brown glass bottle

I was so excited for this beer! It's got a beautiful label and it's from Iceland, what more can you ask for? Unfortunately the beer itself has to deliver.

So, American pale ale? Yes, they use American hops, Cascade in fact, but that doesn't make it an American pale ale. The label reads "Icelandic" so I'll just go with that, and of course I can certainly forgive the listing as there's no other category that it really fits. Maybe it's so lightly hopped because that's the Icelandic style, they can't grow them, so they just use less, as the Scottish did.

I found it clean, well-brewed, and balanced but in general, lacking overall. There's a hint of Cascade, which is great, but the malt is limited as well and it's only slightly caramelish. It's not as if you'd be confused as to whether you were drinking an ale or a lager, but it borders on becoming that.
