Nice appearance. Straw colored and cloudy. Fizzed over a bit on opening. Pineapple and citrus on the nose. Citrus and coriander are apparent. Mildly sweet. Watery mouthfeel. Light, crisp, refreshing beer with wide appeal. Good lunch beer on day after Christmas!

Appearance - Pours a cloudy pale straw color with a white, one-finger head. Fair retention, resulting in a broken layer of suds across the surface. Very little lacing, and what's there has no stick.

Smell - Primarily spice in the aroma, undercut by some funky herbal character. Light citrus notes. Hints of wheat.

Taste - Follows the nose to an extent. Lots of clove spice upfront, then moderate notes of citrus. Wheat creeps in mid-taste and grows stronger toward the finish. Traces of herbal notes. Finishes with wheat and a light clove spice.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with ample carbonation. Bitey. A nice feel for a wit.

Overall - A fair to good witbier here. Would be better if not for some herbal notes that don't quite fit. One of the more aggressive wits out there, and that's something I can appreciate.

Wow! I've tried all kinds of beers from around the world and this is my first Icelandic brew. There must be something about the water up north because this beer is fantastic. Smooth and flavorful. I kind of thought of it as being like a Hoegarden White but cleaner. I shared one with my neighbor and he said it was the best beer he has ever had. It is delicious, but not the best I've ever had. If you are into trying beers from different locations, this is a worthy beverage. I strongly recommend this one.

(3.75) A: Hazy straw colour with a thin foam head that’s quite fizzy. A ring forms and remains for a long time. Minimal lacing.

(4.0) S: Grains, oranges, spices, honey, floral, and cloves. A certain pleasing dryness comes across in the nose. Quite aromatic with a complimentary mix.

(4.25) T: Spices (cloves and that coriander) and orange upfront that transitions into a light mineral taste. Floral honey elements. Impressively flavourful considering the ABV.

(3.75) M: Lighter bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dry and very clean tasting (in part from the mineral taste).

(4.0) D: I was quite impressed with the taste of this, and could see this being in my regular rotation if I were an Icelander (a big if). Really enjoyed that clean and dry mineral-like taste.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Manzanita pint glass
From: World Market in Las Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $1.99
Purchased: Aug. 1, 2013
Consumed: Aug. 3, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a yellow straw hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of white head. Minimal spots of lacing on the sides of the glass. Minimal-to-not retention on the top of the glass.

Smelled surprisingly skunky malts first. Also some lemon, grassy icy hops, lime, some kind of combination of Sprite, Sierra Mist and 7-Up and orange peel.

Tasted similar to the nose and, in relation, rather disappointing. The orange peel came out here first with a mix of that Sprite/Sierra Mist/7-Up soda taste. Also icy lime, wheat, grass, lemon and some fruity notes.

Light body. Thin texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, refreshing finish.

I thought this was just OK. I was expecting better, but it was missing something.
