22oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a two-finger, light brown head of fluffy foam. It smelled very roasty with loads of chocolate and some boozy alcohol. Tasted of sweet chocolate, toffee and caramel with a bitter coffee-like flavor.

Black in color but when held up to light a bit will breech it. Just a trace of khaki colored head covers the majority of the top. I get nutmeg, molasses and a hint of chocolate in the aroma. Initially I get roasted barley and then a sweetness of molasses. On the fade I taste bitter roasted malt. The mouth is a bit chalky and dry.

The pour is a standard cola/black that looks a bit thin and transparent at the edges, but dark and mysterious through the middle. Pearled head the colour of espresso foam, not much lacing, despite decent retention.

The nose is inviting with a dry bakers chocolate and slightly smokey underpinning with a nuttiness playing throughout. As it develops, a sweeter chocolate comes forth, though it never really veers towards sweet chocolate too hard. There's a hint of... allspice? something that I"d use for baking, anyway, but I can't quite out my finger on it.

The flavour follows a similar blueprint: dry chocolate upfront with waves of baking ingredients crashing on the smokey grey outer walls. Mildly more carbonation than I'd prefer, and the body is trying to live up to its silky billing, but the carbonation and a lack of body undermines this somewhat. Smoothe, though. Alcohol is incredibly deceptively hidden. This could almost pass for a beer half its size in that regard.
I can absolutely dig it, and it's a decent Baltic, but it seems to suffer from the same issues I've detected in other 4 Hands beers: namely it's a little thin, a little overcarbonated and heads in a good direction, but doesn't really seem to ever commit fully, pulling back at the last minute and leaving it more subdued. That may just be a difference in personal opinion, and should in no means take away from an enjoyable beer to drink, I just think I would have enjoyed it been a little... more.
